I understand that there is no NEED for any sort of compassion on the internet, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try anyway. I think that is what separates those who want to try to be good people from those who don't care.
Yes, internet trolling is all fun and games, and shouldn't be taken seriously, but it is still a very interesting thing when you take into context that there are real people on the other side of your magic electric box.

I realize that SRAW was trolling, I knew that from the second I read his post, thats not the point. The point is that this is one of the few trucks where I'd say it is not ok to troll and make fun at other people expense, and SRAW took it too far.
And honestly I wasn't mad when he first made the comment... annoyed, yes, but not mad. But now that you're coming in and trying to justify that whatever he says is ok "because he's a troll", that makes me a little mad. Yeah sure this is the internet, but as mellow said, there is still a real person on the other side... and as DR said, the line has to be drawn somewhere, and in my opinion the line was crossed.

You talk about remembering context, that there's another real person reading the trolls, but you've also got to remember that this is the superjer.com forums. The line here is NOT in the same place as, say, where it would be when you were talking to someone you bumped into on the street.
I really don't think SRAW's comment was inappropriate. I think it's weird for anyone to get offended at that particular statement, especially since
a) Sprinkles didn't, and
b) no one actually got hurt (I'm assuming neither Sprnkles nor the dogs got lung cancer).
This is definitely a 'we'll all laugh about it later' sort of situation. SRAW is just getting the ball rolling. Did you guys not notice that he was implying that he himself set the fire in a round about way?
Or maybe he was just trolling. In any case, the societal norm is that people should expect any kind of comment when they post anything in a PUBLIC place on the internet. Societal norms dictate how we respond to people, and what we expect from them. It doesn't make SRAW right (although I happen to think he was by lightening the situation) but it does mean that other people around trolls are expected to not exacerbate the situation by getting all offended.
Which is all to say, Don't Feed the Trolls!
