I did use Garageband but I learned to use the Audio Units and (most importantly) the MultiBandCompressor.
I think you only get that "GarageBand sound" if you don't use any of the audio production tools and just leave it at defaults.
CORN: I hate my Mac but I can't find any other software (free or not) that can do what GarageBand does. The whole "Macs just work" thing is the biggest, steamiest pile of BS, though. 
EDIT: Oh yeah and Molkman gets a point for Depeche Mode.

A few of those are caused by selective hearing. I bet any song played backwards could be interpreted as something.
I think the only thing there that's on purpose was Revolution 9.

Conspiracies like this irritate the hell out of me. I'm always the sceptic, the one with the boring explanation to ruin everyone's good time.
Here I guess I'd say that humans are very good at pattern recognition and we are "trained" to hear and understand speech. I mean, the odds of basic sounds being played backwards being intelligible has to be pretty low...
I think the above sentence makes sense. Tell me if it doesn't.

I don't make music very much. My other stuff is a lot older and not as "professional". I only just learned how to do music/audio production with real tools while working on this song. I'm working on some more -- maybe a whole album!
