Not much progress now b/c I'm moving houses. Also -- I'm moving the server but there shouldn't really be any downtime, I've got it load balanced and replicating between the old and the new house so far.
If everything goes offline you'll know why.

OpenGL version -- 0.1k
I've switched everything to render with OpenGL so it is 100s of times faster. Things were too slow to build layers and level editors and such. But now it's good!

I was using SDL blits. And on most/newer machines they are not hardware accelerated.

You may need to install the SDL libs first:
libsdl-net
libsdl-image
Here's a one-liner to do it:
sudo apt-get install libsdl-image1.2 libsdl-net1.2
Then just download the newest SPARToR-for-Linux, extract to a folder and run.
In the future I'll make an actual .deb file so you can install it like a real package 1-click style.

It says it cannot find the libsdl-image package. Is there a special place it is supposed to be? I've only used Ubuntu a couple of times and I never was able to install anything but WineHQ, and I don't remember how I did that.

Are you missing the 1.2 on it?
You can always search for it in Synaptic. Go to System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager and search for "libsdl" etc.

You know when you shoot the ground the bullets follow the ground? I'll make a video if you need it. Not sure if its a bug or what.

I just left it in because I thought it was fun.
I'm not too worried about the edge-of-screen detection right now because it's all got to be redone to allow scrolling anyway.

You keep on saying "SPARToR/McDiddy's" Are you trying to signify that you are going to make other games on the SPARToR engine?
Also, I really like how when the bullet hits the edge of the screen it fades out.
Its a nice touch.
