I just finished playing half life 2, and I am ok with it, but still kinda pissed.

THERE ARE STILL HOLES IN THE PLOTLINE.

You have to understand the pressure valve went through to remake the game in a year after the original was stolen. They did leave out other parts in the story but other than that the only good that came out of it was the bumpmapping that was added to the retail version.

And i agree sean connery should have had breen's voice
" Mishhter Freeman shho glad you could join ushh" would have made my day.

I just looked that up. Wow. That really sucks. I heard they caught the fucker though.

It wasn't STOLEN as in Valve actually LOST it. The hacker(s) just stole a COPY of it. It turned out to be pretty inconsequential actually.

thought it would be better to post information than to actually argue over placement and choice of words that mean essentially the same thing.

Valve when they lost the game the version had to be remade entirely with many plot changes. Gordon had an entirely new route to run through, and weapons such as the OICW have been cut. And the old zombie model that was fat is gone. If you ever play codename gordon, it is the same storyline as the old version i believe.

I know very well that data copying is considered stealing. I'm arguing that the theft did NOT force Valve to redo ANYTHING in the game (apart from netcode maybe).

I played the leak and it was not even close to a finished game. Nothing had to be 're-made' to complete HL2. It just had to be made made, for the FIRST time. Valve was way behind their own schedule and it's as simple as that.

Even if it leaked plot details and stuff (it didn't) that is no reason to have to rebuild everything. They didn't have to change the route Gordon takes. They didn't have to cut out weapons and fat zombies. All that happened for OTHER reasons (if it did even, I don't know). That is such nonsense.

Your comment about Codename Gordon makes no sense. Valve didn't even make that game. The designers based it on screenshots and stuff that Valve had been releasing.

They might have had to change the netcode to prevent cheaters, who, with the netcode source could hack it more easily. I didn't look at any code so I don't know.

I was wrong u were right.
I just read a more in-depth article about the life of hl^2

Just to clear up some things.
There was only one hacker who went by the name of Osama Bin Leaking
His real name is Axel G
And Gabe first realized his game was getting copied because of random HDD spins. ( i just thought that was interesting )
I still would think it would be better if they had the fat zombies and the normal zombies just for variation.

Anyway back to half life: I decided to play the first one over again on the source engine. Other than the water, there was NO diffrence. Except more bugs. And you could get 20 people to follow you.

Yeah the source version of HL1 is pretty lame.

It's cool they ported it and everything but I'd rather stick to the original.
