....that when I deleted practiclly EVERY single file and program that my family doesn't use on this computer, it still lags?
I cannot believe it! I pretty much deleted a total of 156,000 mb off my computer in 3 days, and it still lags.
I just installed Half-Life 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 Platnium, and Flight Simulator Deluxe after I deleted those old programs and files.
WHAT CAN I DO??? I NEED SPEED TO PLAY THESE GLORIOUS GAMES. IT TAKES 5 MINUTES JUST FOR ME TO GO FORWARD AN INCH IN HL2!!!!! GGGGAAAAGGGHHH!!! I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!!

Whats your ram specs, processor and graphics card?
Most of the time its not the hard drive, but the computer speed.
Half life 2 takes up about 5 gigs, but as for the other two, they may use much more.
If you jump high enough you'll hurt your ankles when you land.

Post a picture showing this. (Right-Click on "My Computer" then go to properties"
Then go to Start > Run and type in "dxdiag" and click on the "Display" tab and give me a screen shot of that. Should look similar to...
Just to see if you're sure on what hardware you have installed.
If you're still lagging I would recommend first a Spyware / Adware check. Use Ad-Aware and Spyware Doctor. There are cracks for Spyware Doctor everywhere.
Yeah..if all else fails then go with a reformat, but ONLY if you know how. And don't ask how or you'll get confused.

still lagging...what else can I do?
I'm sure that I do NOT want to reformat, because I don't have the time to save the important stuff on disks.

Fortunately I'm getting an external hard drive for my birthday (tomorrow) so that will make things alot easier.

Yeah if you have all those "Good" specs, then do a virus/spyware check. But that mobility X600 probably isn't helping you.
As far as memory, 1 Gig of RAM is sufficient unless it's installed wrong and only using one stick (assuming you have more than one equaling a gig).
I have an X850XT 256mb, AMD 64 2800+, and a Gig of RAM. I have, however, over clocked most of my stuff. If you can do it, try. Make sure you do it safely and don't burn your shit out.

A good defrag every so often never hurt anyone.
You might also want to update your video drivers, if you haven't recently. I've had my computer for three or four years now (yeah, I know) and was having just an awful time with noted resource-hog Civilization 4, but after Nez suggested I download a new driver (and I did so) it began running much smoother. I still can't run some of the higher end new games on the highest level of detail without paying penalties, but it certainly knocked my need to get a new computer down a few priority levels.

I just ran the name of my video card and the word "driver" as part of a google search and it turned me up something but quick. You can usually find the drivers on the company's site anyway.

Also check for gnomes. Computers never work well with gnomes.
