How exactly is it you're trying to get Minecraft running? I'm not having any difficulties.

However, you really have to have the proper drivers available (if you have an ATi or nVidia card in there, you can get open-source Intel drivers from... somewhere). Then running minecraft is as simple as running
code
java -cp minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
I don't even think you'd need to increase the memory available to it.

No matter how much I wash it its still going to need a new paint job. And it needs its bumper fixed, new tires. Oh and if anyone knows about the electrical system let me know, mines ALL fucked up. :(

Wow, it's hard getting minecraft to work on Linux :/

Make sure you have Sun/Oracle Java installed. Minecraft doesn't work well with the open source implementations.

You also need at least 2 GB of RAM and a real video card WITH manufacturer-supplied drivers.

If you meet all these requirements it should be fine.

For the record, I run a client and server on this laptop with no problems. In fact, that runs better than it does on Vista.

I had some problems because I have both sun java and some other (GIJ, I believe) installed. So I used something like
code
/home/blah/jre1.0.6_24/bin/java -jar /home/blah/.minecraft/minecraft.jar

It asked me to choose a name, then did nothing else. It didn't freeze my computer, it just left my terminal running some god-knows-what process, I left it for about half an hour, then CTRL+C'd it.

Wow, that's a little steep, not sure I have that.
...and that's the bottom line because Mate de Vita said so.

Yeah, you might be running the wrong command, I would instead try instantiating the LauncherFrame (which is from the Minecraft beta released recently). That's possibly why it didn't do anything.

In terms of the game running on other hardware, my flatmate tried it on an Intel card and it wasn't amazing. There are a few tricks to get it nicer, but I dunno.

I don't have a graphics card either. But, I do have a poor oriental kid that draws pretty pictures on the screen. He keeps asking when he will be getting paid, I tell him its all going into his 401k.

Notch says to run it like this if you have problems:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

Worth a try.

How much memory don't you have?

The new server has got an OS on it now and will be up sooner or later.

You will have to connect to minecraft.superjer.com or mine.superjer.com or mc.superjer.com to get in.

I'll post again when it is up.

Connect to mc.superjer.com instead.

ALSO: We're running Minecraft 1.4 now, so that's pretty rad, too.

"Freebuild" server launched!

mc.superjer.com:25566

This new machine is so powerful I decided to put back up the old Minecraft world with Castletown in it.

It's all olden-style with no monsters and regenerating health.

If you ask nicely, an admin might even come in and spawn stuff for you. But not in the regular server. That one's supposed to be all hardcore and shit.

Connect to mc.superjer.com:25566 to play.
