Well, both Nezumi and I are old Smash Brothers pros. We go to tournaments and stuff (we were signed up for a tournament taking place before Brawl was released). Ones with hundreds of people and I end up getting stuff like 3rd place, so I must be good. Nez is exactly as good as I am as well, we manage to tie in stock matches. Yeah. I know. Insane...

...anyway. All of this I am saying just so you know this opinion isn't from just some dude that knows nothing about the game. R.O.B. is NOT overpowered. His up-B is the second best as far as range right after Pit, but it isn't an attack and is easily interruptible. He has no fast way of bolting back onto the level (like Fox's up-B or side-B). This is VERY BAD. His attacks are fairly strong, but not even nearly strong enough for how slow they are. When I played against Nezumi, who was using R.O.B., and I was using someone fast like Pit or Fox he couldn't even fight me. He'd fare far better with someone like Ganondorf, who is slow (his forward smash is significantly faster, higher damage, better priority and probably even longer range than any of R.O.B.'s finishing moves.) but hits so fucking hard that you can be killed in a single attack. Not to say Ganondorf is very good or anything.

If there wasn't Pit, who can glide and use an absurdly versatile and long range up-B like R.O.B.'s, then I'd think much higher of him. Not to mention all of Pit's attacks are faster than R.O.B.'s by a wide margin. Pit's air moves are scary. Also, R.O.B.'s laser? You're joking, right? That's gotta be one of the worst projectiles in the game. It's damage over time is way too low to be of any real use. Even when fully charged, which takes about half a match, it does like 9% damage... 9%!? C'mon! Even Peach's shitty projectile can do better than that!

I'm both happy and sad at the same time that they nerfed Fox. Obviously he needed it, being the only character in the first tier in Melee, but alas, I played him a lot and liked having an unfair advantage against people who were using any other character during tournaments (poor, poor Samus...). His all-powerful shine-dash is gone, along with wave-dashing entirely, which I am one of the few pros to be happy with. His moves all look and feel the same, but his movement speed was cut noticeably and his best finishing attacks (up smash, and up-A in the air) were reduced enormously. You used to be able to easily kill Falco at 90% with an up-A or up smash in Final Destination, now he has to be at like 140%... yikes. Also his shine is no longer a veritable insta-kill over the edge of the level. Grr.

About Ike... I like that his counter is just as fast as Marth's, and that he hits nearly as hard as Ganondorf, but his air moves are comically slow and his recovery is shamefully bad (very probably the worst, since his up-B gets caught on the bottom of things so easily and it definitely counts as a Trojan). You get that guy off the ground and he can't do anything. He can barely even jump across that gap in the Bridge of Eldin. I'll really have to play as and against him more though before I can give a final verdict.

Sheik, one of the high-tier characters from Melee has been mostly unchanged. Which is good because all of her A-moves were godly fast and easy to combo off of and her forward-A in the air was hands down the most dangerous air move in the game. Sadly, they didn't give her any B-moves. Her forward-B still serves no purpose whatsoever and her projectile only works to kill the inattentive. Her up-B has the bonus of being able to set off explosives without hurting you now, at the very least. One little thing they changed makes it so that I will never play her again. They turned her down-A into a Trojan. God damn it. Some people can handle that, but my style of play centers far too much around finishing people with down-A moves over the edge of the level. Oh well.

I'm semi-anxiously awaiting the chance to fight a skilled Ness/The Lufa player so that I can find out if they don't suck. Ness seems much better with his jump speed increase, but who knows...
