 That's the thing, the imperial system did make sense because it was based on some pretty clear things. An inch was the width of the average Roman foot soldier's thumb. A yard was the length of their arm. Guess what a foot was? I forget what a mile was supposed to be, but it was something the distance traveled over a certain time elapsed. Now, I do think that pounds are a little abstract compared to kilograms (which I think go back to an ounce of gold), and Celcius isn't really a bad way to go (I'd use Kelvins, given the choice). But the scientific community is already straight up metric, and that leaves the U.S. as sort of a holdout and I think Cote d'Ivoire is still there.

And as for my earlier comment, I really can't believe none of you got it. The percentage dispute between me and Covernant had nothing to do with metric or imperial and even then, it would still be the same percentage of the whole regardless of how you were measuring it.

yes i agree completely with you, but in todays world, there are more accurate measurements, that are easier to work with.
 For example 1000 metres = 1 kilometre, but 5 280 feet = 1 mile

i dont like signatures. although there are some good ones out there

 I am a hypocrite.

I think we americans should use the Metric system...but then I go and use miles instead.

 Why does it matter?

 Is there some huge problem as a result of using one system or another? I don't think so.

 How the fuck often do you need to divide miles down into feet or km down into m anyway? I don't think I ever have.

 If somebody tells me: "It's 3 miles that way -->"

 WHO CARES HOW MANY FEET IT IS! It may as well be 5319.662 feet for all I care!

 The most common conversion I use is 1 inch = 2.54 cm and that so far has not caused any problems.

 EDIT:
 Oh yeah also, here's why its 5280:

 5280 = 2*2640
 5280 = 3*1760
 5280 = 4*1320
 5280 = 5*1056
 5280 = 6*880
 5280 = 8*660
 5280 = 10*528
 5280 = 11*480
 5280 = 12*440
 5280 = 15*352
 5280 = 16*330
 5280 = 20*264
 5280 = 22*240
 5280 = 24*220
 5280 = 30*176
 5280 = 32*165
 5280 = 33*160
 5280 = 40*132
 5280 = 44*120
 5280 = 48*110
 5280 = 60*88
 5280 = 66*80
