does it involve origins? And I've tied a brush to an entity and selected func_door but I don't see how I'd set the direction.....

It's direction is the angle.

It doesn't need an origin.

ok, so a door sliding to the right has it's angle set to 0?

Hmm let me think..

I think 0 is the left, I don't know right now, just drag that little angle thing on the right so it is pointing in the direction you want the door to go.
