The problem is the CPU and RAM cannot process graphics, so they have to wait for the graphics card to do its work. And it is hard to find a decent graphics card for your laptop.

yes it is intel

and i have chipset? its low but i kinda expected the ram and the processer to make it workable

What kind specifically? Have you tried fiddling with the CS video settings? I.e. Direct3D vs. OpenGL vs. Software modes?

OpenGL usually has the best fps. You can also lower your screen resolution and it will increase fps.

It can verrrrry much depend on your driver. Most graphics drivers are loaded with horrible bugs so use whichever one is the least shitty by just trying all 3.

Yes. My company sells them actually.

www.optimization-world.com/details/prodid/335.html

But it's not really a solution to your problem.

Is that like an external firewall (the concept)?

Not really, it's literally an external video card. You plug your computer in one end (USB) and a monitor or TV in the other end.

An external firewall is more like a separate computer or router between you and the Internet. Your router is an external firewall.

So because my router is an external firewall I don't have to have a firewall installed on my pc?

Correct -- in general. It is redundant. But a firewall only does what it is told to do, and chances are your router doesn't actually block any outgoing traffic, while your software probably does.

My old laptop had horrifying lag when playing Half-Life when some kind of effect fired, I changed it and then it played better.

Then I tried CS:S on lowest settings and got something like 18 fps max, 2-3 worst. Similarly for HL2 :D

This one, however, can play Crysis. Not brilliantly but it manages at native resolution...

The thing I meant to say was that Vista and 7 are memory-heavy anyway, so a lot of that would be the OS. And AFAIK Vista and 7 both do caching, but at startup, then don't tell you that it's in use. Kinda transparent-like.

What is that referencing? The computer? The graphics setting? The effect?

I changed the renderer, sorry. I think I went D3D -> OGL but honestly can't remember. This was all so I could find the hole, of course :)

In all honesty, that paragraph went through several rewrites for clarity, so that must have slipped through the cracks.

Upon reading only the first paragraph I easily assumed you meant the renderer. Then you starting referring to a second computer and I couldn't be sure of anything anymore!

Anyway, I've ended up switching renderer just because of a graphics driver update with Half-life related things. Not really sure how that works...

I'd say mostly because at some stage ATi, for instance, really screwed their OpenGL support. Not that I'm suggesting that this is what happened to you; this was relatively recently, but you get the idea. If it happened once it could easily have happened before...
