did you change the file's extension to *.bat?

is it in the right folder?

when you say "nothing happens", it opens but doesn't compile? what DOES happen?

please elaborate. XD

Ah, you might have changed your file associations to open it with notepad...

Open a command prompt, give the full path to the *.bat file (eg "C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Maps\My_map.bat"). If you're running Vista then obviously it'll be under C:\Users. If the path has spaces in it then you will need quotes around it.

ok well im a little confused on how to do it. I opened the command prompt and it has the begining C:\Documents and Settings\Kyle>
but the file with the .bat file isnt in documents and settings its in C:\ZHLT\First_map.bat
I tried typing in the command prompt the real location after the part it always has but that just gives me an error saying its not recognized as an internal or external command im pretty sure im doing something wrong just i dont know what it is can you tell me.

well, what im thinking the problem is, is that you arnt able to view regular file types. you need to:
You need to disable extension hiding in Windows.

All you have to do is click Tools -> Folder Options on the menu bar of an open folder. Then click the View tab on the window that pops up. Locate "Hide extensions for known file types" and make sure it is NOT checked. Then click OK and you're done!

taken straight out of the tutorial baby.

You don't want to hide the extensions, you want to show them...

If that still doesn't work try using the command prompt, give the command

CD C:\ZHLT\

then type First_map.bat
If mellow is right, however, it might not have that name... you could always try "First_map.bat.txt" but I don't know how that would work out.

It sounds like you didn't UNcheck the Hide Extensions option. If you uncheck it you'd see your file is really named "First_Map.bat.txt" and that's why it opens in notepad.

If it is opening in Notepad, then it is NOT names something.bat

It is named something.bat.txt or just something.txt

sounds like you put in the wrong path into your maps folder. double check that path actually exists.

That error means that HLBSP didn't finish for some reason. Look in the .log for an earlier error from HLBSP.

You are not even running HLCSG. It has to be run first. What does your batch file look like?

Also you are running HLBSP, HLVIS, and HLRAD twice each (bad).
