Meh, I dunno. It's just that the GIMP is free open-source software; better than that nasty commercial stuff. There should be plenty of online tutorials.

The only thing that pisses me off is the whole multiple window thing, and that my 3D filters don't work in gimp. Other than that its fine.

I like GIMP, its free, its got all the features of photoshop, however it is somewhat hard to use. The multiple windows thing pisses me off. And my 3D filters don't work when I load a .psd file. But its 100% free, whereas photoshop costs like $300. And it can use my photoshop files.
Did I mention its free? 
But yeah, what I do is that I just stick them on a diffrent desktop in linux. Works for the multiple windows thing. On Windows, you might just want to try to find some kind of third party app that can place windows inside itself, via Google. Like wine on linux.
