I don't know anything about fancy multi-screen systems that some people claim windows 8 has an advantage over 7 for, so for me, windows 8 is like windows 7 except it replaced the start menu with their trendy metrosexual start screen

Depends what you want out of your computer honestly. Windows 8 runs games more fluently, but has a confusing interface for its main desktop. 7 on the other hand has the classic style of interface but runs it's programs a little slower because of how the intereface has been simplified.

In my experience, Win 8 is a lot faster than 7 on the same computer.

Go with 8. (.1)

Win 8 has a stupid teen-girl-cell-phone interface but it's just funny to laugh at. It doesn't stop you from running your warez and gamez and appz, so it's not worth losing the performance over.

I think it's just a matter of preference. If you can't stand the circus UI so much that it's not worth the performance boost, then stick with 7.

I just find the My Little Pony UI hilarious so it's a double win for me.

Does windows 8 come with modifiable themes? Like in windows xp, you could change your whole computer to have new cursors, new icons etc etc. If someone created a windows 7 theme and they disabled pressing the windows key, you could reasonably simulate windows 7 on your windows 8 pc

Windows 8 is Windows 7 for the most part. The biggest difference is that this (start menu):


is full screen and looks like this:


Unless I click the button in the bottom left corner, or the windows key, it looks like this for me:


To me, the hate against Windows 8 is just people who haven't tried it shouting at it because that's what other people on the internet do.

Oh, and yeah, if you wish to have back the windows 7 style window instead of fullscreen start menu, you can install programs that does that.

Windows 8 is faster, has a better task manager, works better with multi screen. The only problem I have with Windows 8 is that some settings are in the Windows 8 style menus.
