Um. People don't live here or nothing. I check the forums MAYBE one time a day. And not much on weekends, I'm usually out doing junk.

Anyway.

Use Map->Show Information and check Solids.

Why only 600 brushes? That's not going to make very much map...

There is a maximum of 512 brush-entities (entities made out of brushes) and 1024 entities total (including point-entities).

If you get even kind of close to those limits, though, you might crash.

Also, you are not supposed to go above 600-800 world polygons visible at a time while playing in your map. You can check this by using r_speeds in the console, type this:

r_speeds 1

This will show a display including wpolys. If you're wpolys get to high (i.e. over 1000) you should remove brush detail from your map, or break up large areas.

...so what your saying is that there is no brush limit just as long as you cant see over 600 brushes at a time?

600 polygons at a time. 1 brush often equals several polygons.

There is no direct correlation from brushes->polygons.

Compiling converts all your brushes into polygons.

For a simple cube brush, you will probably get 6 polygons, one for each face.

But if it is a big cube or the texture on it repeats a lot, you can get 2,4,6,8,16 or more polygons per face.

If the cube is touching something, so that a face is totally touching the ground, or a wall, or any other brush, that face will not become a polygon. It will get thrown out.

If PART of a face is touching or intersected with another brush, it will be converted into polygons to fill just the visible part.

If you have really complicated, odd-angled brushes intersecting or touching or just floating there sometimes, a couple brushes can turn into many many polygons.

A polygon also can not span more than one "quadrant" so if a brush crosses one of the bluish lines in hammer, it will be converted into extra polygons. There are more invisible quadrants too, every 2048 units, I think.
