hlvis: Error: Portal file 'mapname.prt' does not exist, cannot vis the map

What does this mean? This is what pops up in 'mapname.err'.
Any help?


BTW This is a test map I just made to get used to making proper maps.

This means one of the following:
1. Your map does not have the "basic entities" (light, info_player_start and info_player_deathmatch).

2. There is an entity too close to a wall. Make sure all entities are at least 64 units (one "normal" grid square) away from any brush.

3. There is an entity outside the map. That would be bad...

When I say entities cannot be too close to a brush, that includes having entities INSIDE the brush. The whole center of your map is filled, there is no air in that room.

When you save your map in Hammer it is saved as RMF, or something like that. The compile tools use a format called map. Therefore make sure you have exported to .map before you attempt to compile.

load the .rmf in the VHE then go under File->Export to .MAP and save. And make sure you have mapname.map in your .bat file.

Do you have an info_player_deathmatch entity?

Ye I put that in. But I change team to a Terrorist like you would normally but I spawn in a CT spawn point as a normal CT?

what about if you select the terrorist team to begin with?

It doesnt give me a selection. It just loads the map and I spawn as a CT. No team choosing like you would on a proper server.

ummm... first of all, are you playing with bots or creating a multiplayer server?

Im using ZHLT (Obviously) and pressing a random key and it loads the game and map for me.......

oh so that's the problem. When you use zlht it only enters the game, so that you can check it out. It doesn't give you any weapons and players can't join it. You can even use cheats like noclip to fly around the map. I think you always spawn at the info_player_start when you use zlht.

You have to run cs, then select new game and make a server there.
