Any texture that has { in the beginning of its name is a transparent texture. That is, the blue or black background becomes invisible when you apply the texture to visible entities and set rendermode = solid; fxamount = 255.

KD might not like this claim of yours :)
You should say any texture that begins with a { and doesn't have a white background is a transparent texture. Decals (the {textures with a white background) are something else...

It works on most brush-entities, the more common ones are func_wall and func_illusionary.
