Ah, sorry! The path should be okay then.

So the sound doesn't play? Try look in the console for any error-messages after your map has loaded.

Seemingly every time someone tries to use an ambient generic it doesn't work. Edan I demand a trial run! Or KD. Or pretty much anyone that has Hammer.

I've managed to get ambient_generic to work multiple times.

cc_crazycowboy, is the sound a custom sound you made yourself or an standard one that came with the game?

actually i got ambient_generic to work..but your info is all correct to work.
Make sure that its a .wav file b/c i remember trying to use a sound until i found out it was an .mp3 (my winamp reads .mp3s and .wavs) or maybe its inside the ground..
i dont think you can hear something underground
