Argh! Gungrave is very depressing! Damn those mafia jerks and their shoot-first attitude! Damn them and their attitude to hell!

Trigun was much happier.

Trigun wasn't that happy at the end. You still had Vash acting all wacky, periodically, but there was a lot of killing. Also soul-searching.

Trigun was a hippie love-fest bash compared to Gungrave. In which EVERYONE but Mika died. Including her entire family and everyone she'd ever met. I'm sure she'd grow up to be sane.

I guess you have a point, if they bothered to develop the characters in Gungrave. Entire cities were blown up in Trigun (mostly off camera), starships crashed, and most of the Gung-ho Guns had pretty big axes to grind with Vash specifically, but most if not all of the time, that was never explored (one of the things that bugged me about the series, I'm a sucker for backstory). What we saw was mostly the aftereffect of mass-killing, which is rather different from the visceral act itself.
