When I go to the objects box under "entities" (where you are supposed to pick player_info_start) the box is blank when i click and open it. did i miss something?

Huh? You mean the entity isn't there? Or none of them? Did you add your FGD?

I click on the objects box and its blank. I click on the entities box and it has only the subject "entities"

Then it sounds like you haven't added your FGD.

Open Hammer and go to the options thing.

In the options thing go to "Game Configurations" tab.

Click "Add" or "New" whatever it is to add a new game

Then click "Add" (Or "New") to add the "FGD" or it might say "Game Configurations" (Second little box I believe)

Then add your FGD for the game you're playing (I think Sups has a DL link? Correct me I'm wrong :o)

The box may be empty until you click the Entity Tool (the LIGHTBULB one).

If it's empty even after you click the LIGHTBULB then you must have a problem with your FGD file.
