Command Prompt help... plz?

So, i'm new, but I NEED some help. I followed the instructions on superjer's article about making counter strike maps perfectly. I run the bat file and it goes through and checks all the boxes. At the end though, I get this message (from END hlrad):

Access Denied.
0 file<s> copied.
Press any key to continue...

After I hit the any key, a window with a message opens up:

Failed to initalize authentication interface. Exiting...

I have been roaming for a day now trying to get an answer. I signed up for this; I am going to get some kind of answer...

You know, I could VERY easily answer your question for you, but just because of your little "I AM going to get an answer" remark, I'm not going to.

You do not have the required privileges to copy files.

BTW, that link is the first thing that pops up when you google it.
Try harder next time.

Sprinkles has essentially answered it for you, but basically because you are trying to copy into a special area (which is Program Files) you need elevated privileges, so copying the actual compiled map has failed. You can do this step manually.

Don't you love how I tell people what the problem is, and not how to fix it. :)

I meant about not having the required privileges.

Is this some kind of Windows Vista/7 thing? Do I has to update the tutorial again?

It started with Vista; its part of UAC. You cannot copy files from the command prompt without admin privileges.

Just add to the tutorial that you need to right-click the batch file and select "run as administrator"... pretty sure that'll fix it.

I'm getting pretty tired of windows 7's "security"... can't even autorun anything from a thumb drive anymore

When I used to do .Net programming it was a bitch. I wasn't allowed to copy files from the Program Files dir, let alone ask for privileges to do so.

Wait, no, I wasn't even allowed to search through the Program Files dir for anything.

They probably implemented it because 97% of the people who use Windows are stupid.

That's what you get for using Windows to program.
...and that's the bottom line because Mate de Vita said so.

Mate de Vita has a point. You can turn it to various levels somewhere, I dunno where. If you look up .NET tutorials, I imagine it'll tell you what API calls to make.

I have mine set to give me the most admin power, and it STILL does stupid stuff like mentioned earlier.

Edit: Still better than owning a mac though

I don't know a lot about Windows security, but you shouldn't be trying to write code that writes to Program Files in the first place.

If you really need to, then your app should be requesting Administrative privileges properly. And if you don't know what I'm talking about then you shouldn't be trying to write to Program Files.

Also if you think disabling autorun isn't a good idea for security then how the hell do you think malicious software works?
