The reason why I did the f9 was because he said it was faster than the zhlt. My map... takes around 5-10 hours just to be done compiling......

in your compiling folder does is show a .BSP file??

just copy your .BSP file to your cstrike/maps folder

What? Putting my .bsp into my cstrike/maps isn't going to do anything because I'm stuck with compiling my map with valve?

The f9 thing does make the .rmf or .map into a .bsp right?

You've probably set up Hammer wrong, go to 'Tools'--->'Options...' and go to the tab 'Game Configurations'.

This is how I, personally, got everything set up, and it works good for me:

First, at the top it says 'Configurations:' with a drop-down menu under, make sure you got a configuration selected there, if not press the 'Edit' button and create a configuration, you can call it whatever you want eg. 'Counter-Strike 1.6'.

Then you got some drop-down menus, I think they're set up correctly by default but anyway:

Texture Format: WAD3 (HalfLife/TFC)
Map Type: HalfLife/TFC
Default PointEntity: Just leave it at its default value.
Default SolidEntity: Just leave it at its default value.

Game Executable Directory: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam
Mod Directoy: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\******\counter-strike\cstrike
Game Directory: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\*******\counter-strike
RMF Directory: Wherever you want.

Now change the tab to the 'Build Programs'-tab:

Game Executable: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe
CSG Executable: Make sure it points to your hlcsg.exe
BSP Executable: Make sure it points to your hlbsp.exe
VIS Executable: Make sure it points to your hlvis.rad
RAD Executable: Make sure it points to your hlrad.exe
Place compiled maps in this...: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\*****\counter-strike\cstrike\maps

Then hit Apply/OK and you're done!
QUACK! QUACK!

It still hasn't worked. I followed everything you said and did it right, but, I don't have C:/programfiles/valve/steam... mine just goes C:/programfiles/steam.. is that right?

I know that but I heard that doing it from valve is apparently faster than doing from the .bat.

ahha .. so you prefer doing it in a way that you can't get to work instead of trying a new way ??
you know superjer uses this method for a reason .. me thinks

No, it's the complete opposite! When compiling from Hammer, Hammer will still run in background taking up some of the RAM, when compiling with a .bat Hammer doesn't need to run in background which will free up some RAM which can be used by the compile-tools instead.

Oh, ok, but why would my map take 10-20 hours just to compile? I don't want to leave it over night because of my electricity bill 8/............ It's not that big of a map it's a pyramid with levitating blocks.... 8/

How old is your computer? If you post your system specifications (fairly briefly please) it's give us a better idea.

Thing is, it will take a hell of a long time to compile anyway. Ten hours sounds a bit excessive though.

Last time I checked for the "leaf thread" was around 17000 seconds.. Which is around 15-20 hours for my map...... My computer is fairly NEW.

Window's VISTA
Model: m8020,
Rating: 3.4
Processor: Intel(r) Core (tm) 2 cpy
Memory(ram): 2 gb
Nvidia 7500 Graphic card.... around there

That's a problem right there.

What speed is your processor? Admittedly, Vista will probably eat a lot of RAM, which won't help. It really shouldn't take that long if your map is as simple as you say it is. How many lights do you have?

even you having vista still shouldn't affect it that much .. i compiled maps on PC's with half of your specs

if it takes you that much there must be something wrong !

i mean if your map isn't the size of Uranus ,
and doesn't have like 50 lights ,
a lot 32 sided cylinders ( and other complex shapes )
& like 1000 textures in it .
then it shouldn't take that long

the most i spent compiling a map was on a map named de_egyptian , it took about 3-4 hours and it was BIG i mean really BIG ( sideways it was very close to the edge of the construction area) , i had about 40-60 custom textures , and a lot of rubble and stuff ( complex shapes )

post a few pics of your map lets see what its like
Wtf is that ? its a bird ! no its a plane ! amm maybe its a plastic bag . NO ! its SUPERJER ! the greatest super hero ever!
