Jake, Nez and I are playing Civ 4. Whenever you have time you should play with us. There's no reason we can't have more than one game going at once, so we can have one for each combination of people.

Oh happy day
I had actually just wrapped up a game. I was playing on balanced, which I assumed had meant balanced between archipelagos and continents, but instead meant roughly half water half giant land mass. Well, long story short, I covered most of the continent and put Napoleon of the Khmer in a corner. Meanwhile, Hatshepsut of the Russians wanted to jump my bones because I was Ramses of the Indians, and you know, and Genghis Khan of the Portuguese didn't do a whole lot because he wasn't smrat enough and there was no use for a navy. Anyway, I picked off enough of Napoleon's cities via culture flipping to win a domination victory around 1816.
AND I was getting all upset because I knew I wouldn't have time to play another game any time soon, but now I can! just through the interweb thing.

I won by 1670 or so and scored something like 53000 points. It was pretty intense. It was Tiny/Pangaea/Noble/2 aggressive opponents that I was sandwiched between (literally there was no way for them to attack each other without going through me)/No Barbarians. It was essentially a 2v1 due to the geography and borders and I still kicked ass. Mostly because Boudica and research apparently don't mix and because Catherine likes to stack her whole army in one giant collateral damageable pile.
Also I just won a game of the Next War scenario for the same Catherine reason. The Southern Empire, while making the final push against the last Europan city decided to stack it's entire army of nearly 100 units together. I saw the opportunity. I declared war and dropped my entire stockpile of nukes on them. It was a beautiful glow in which their soldiers withered and died.

I think I'm about ready to move up to Noble, or something after Warlord at any rate. I keep getting through games with four times the score of my nearest competitor. And I play on the largest map, marathon, without fail, so I've never been caught in one of those tiny map death matches. It's usually just an all-out and senseless war of someone who has knights trebuchets and longbowmen as their best units versus riflemen and cannons. Good times had by all in the instances when, for no reason at all (possibly my refusal to be intimidated by them), the Persians or whomever have attacked one of my cities with a unit stack big enough to kill off, I don't know, one of my guys, and I've responded by wiping out their entire civilization. Seems fair to me, really.

And if we're going to build an ironclad, I propose we do it in Nez' apartment, so as to block him off from either the kitchen or the bathroom. That'll show him.
And then Jake will culture bomb him or something.

Gratojams, Andew and I are having a pretty interesting game on a Terra map. Everyone starts on one slightly large continent, and there's another continent or two to expand to. We made it a 3v3v3 as far as teams go, but it's 3v2v3 now as GaryJer ate Carthage.
In a stroke of bad luck I am the only person that Hannibal's allies can mete out vengeance upon... so I've been on a constant defensive action the majority of the game (GaryJer finally showed up after consuming Hannibal and we immediately captured one of their capitals... that'll show 'em). It's only complicated by the fact that our technology is the worst of the three teams, in fact, the last team is so advanced they would wipe us out in less than 20 turns if they bothered to declare war on us.
Our strategy has become one of secrecy and colonization. We found the New World before everyone else, and we went straight to research Galleons so we were the only ones with access for nearly 30 turns. Our plan is to cover the whole continent in cities with high culture and nothing else as fast as we can (before the advanced and peaceful team figures out what we're up to) and steal the bacon with a Domination Victory. Here's to us! And here's to Andew not being able to figure out how to form an army and just having to individually gift all his units to me so I can get some god damned reinforcements.

We need to have a 3 v 3 v 3! Or 4 v 4! Fuck. I'm so excited I might just buy a headset.

It would be nice if GratoJams and I could get you. Jake knows what he's doing but he keeps falling asleep at his keyboard, and Andew has the military sense of a rutabaga.

Rhys and Fall is terrible... do not play it. The barbarians in it CAN NOT BE STOPPED. They send camel archers, the unique arabian knight, after you when the best thing you can muster is basic archers. You can not last past 80 turns or so, you WILL die once the barbarians start showing up. They even have the audacity to send groups of 4-8 of them at you at once... you'll be lucky to even HURT one.

Weird. I guess that the people that would be into that would be the people who insist on playing the Earth map only and complain about balance issues and historical inaccuracy. I kind of liked it when Spearmen could blow up Howitzers. It made the game interesting. Not fun, but interesting.
And besides, if it's just trying to replicate the goings on of actual civilizations, then it's missing the point. The real point of Civilization IV is that Zoroaster got eaten by a kitty while he was on his way to Berlin to build the Temple of Solomon.

Actually I believe Zoroaster was on his way to an English city, York, perhaps? I remember he started his journey in Seville, for sure, but my memories are vague after that.
