This should help:
SRAW said:
Q: Whenever I add sounds or models to my map, it takes forever to load!

Either that your map is huge... or you typed the wrong file path in the properties for the entity.

IE:
Sound:
Wrong- C:\CS\cstrike\sounds\ambience\rain.wav
Correct- ambience\rain.wav
Model:
Wrong- C:\CS\cstrike\models\bottle.mdl
Correct- models\bottle.mdl

The reason for the long loading is that the engine looks for the C:\CS\cstrike\... in the cstrike directory, and the folder is non existant

sorry that was weird ..

anyway edit:

but as you can see in my error messege, it is the right directory.. isn't it? If not what should it be in my case?

and secondly are you even sure that's the same problem? It's not that my map takes long to load, it's that it doesn't even compile.

Forget about changing it and make sure the wads are in the cstrike directory.

EDIT: Make sure that halflife-cs.fgd is in there before adding the wads.

what do you mean by the cstrike directory?

here's where everything is for me:

C:\zhlt253-17
F:\Valve Hammer Editor 3.5
F:\Valve hammer maps
F:\Hammer extra files\cs_dust.wad
F:\Valve\Steam

the guide said zhlt should be on C drive and the hammer maps should be anywhere (in the editable file type)

i don't know where to put wad files.. the guide never said.. except i think it said it has to be on the same drive? which it is..

I am guessing you should try changing the directory to:
F:\Hammer extra files\cs_dust.wad

Wad-files goes into the cstrike-folder, eg: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\*****\counter-strike\cstrike

After you've moved the wads start Hammer, "Tools" ---> "Options..." ---> "Textures" remove the wads and add them again (so they get a correct filepath)

ok ty but it still doesnt work.. i moved the wad, deleted the wad directory in the options to the new one, and then i redid the textures.. but it still has th same problem.. in the error messege it's exactly the same.. it's still trying to get the wad files from the old directory. i dont know why or how to change it..

EDIT:

okay so i just redid the whole map.. and now i get the same messege but with the new directory.

hlcsg: Error: Could not open wad file \valve\steam\steamapps\da_fleegsta\counter-strike\cstrike\cs_dust.wad

hlcsg: Error: Could not find WAD file
Description: The compile tools could not locate a wad file that the map was referencing.
Howto Fix: Make sure the wad's listed in the level editor actually all exist

the file IS in there.. i don't know why it can't find it..

and yes i beleive i do have multiple hard drives. Everything is on the same drive except for the zhlt folder. Which the guide recommended to put on the C drive (it didn't say why).

Ok, a lot of people seem to have their WADs on a different drive.

I've updated the tutorial with:
"Where C:\ is the same drive that has Counter-Strike installed."
learn7.php

And I've updated Step 2 with a link to the WAD files directly:
wad.php

I had no idea we'd still be making Counter-Strike maps 10 years later.
