Um, I am not even close to being done with my map. I haven't added the texturing and the other little nick-nacks. It will be well over 800 when it is done. Hence, my problem.

Yeah, read all the crap out there on it...it is just not my thing I mean. I go in and look at dust..usually never hitting over 450 wpoly. I go in on my map and look at it. It hits 500 almost 600 wpoly in some areas. I try everything. I just give up. Really what could I be doing wrong?

Yeah, title says it all. I need to completely be clear on optimization. It is bugging me that I am at a loss for it. I know there are tutorials and such like using HINTs and func_walls and such, but yeah.

Well, I haven't completed my map yet, but for shits and gigs I wanted to run it in software mode to see what it looked like and how I needed to change things for a bit better optimization. Well, when I went into options and changed it from opengl to software mode and exited and restarted CS it would not run. All it did was start go to a brief second of the splash screen (the menu) and then turn black. This is making me inable to change settings back. So, who knows a way I could.

I made a ceiling instead of a sky because of the way my map is, but when I func_wall it to see if it decreases the r_speeds I get a leak. Advice?

Yeah that sounds stupid, "Oh emm gee, nooblet doesn't know how to get single player to test his map using gl_wireframe 1." Anyway, this is what I need. I need to know how to test my map in single player for CS 1.6 or however it is you test your map. I tried hitting newgame and stuff, but gl_wireframe 1 won't work: "cannot set gl_wireframe in multiplayer"

I just thought, well, in better words, assumed because the default tools for 3.5 were sucky and someone made something better that the same would go for SDK.

I use ZHLT for Hammer v3.5, which does everyone else.

Well, I got SDK, so I am getting ready. Anyway, are the ZHLT tools good for bother hammer 3.5 and source sdk hammer 4.1? If not where would I go about getting the compiling tools?

Meh, I have tried that. I went an different route and took the map to an inside to outside feel. Night sky with 9 lights on the ceiling light it brilliantly. I will keep looking though. Thanks guys, sorry for that double post, had no idea it did it.

Well, you can make a func_button and target the door. You first have to give your door a name of course.
Example: Door name = door1 in the target area of func_button = door 1 Truck

Rain= make people lag because the map is rendering shit over and over. Rain= make people go from 100 fps to about 50. Rain= bad idea because most people have weather = 0. Rain in a zombie map with all that gunfire..

couldn't open maps\Map1-2-5.pt when I type pointfile into console..to find the leaks. I have been unable to find leaks due to this problem. User
If I were you everytime you put in a texture hit ALT+P and check for problems. Sometimes I come across problems with textures and that usually tells you.

Ok, your wrong. I want a light_Enviorment. I want to make my map semi dark. So, at this time I have got the Light_Enviorment working. However, event when I change the brightness and make it say "2" it still is too bright. I have looked in to tutorials and such, but everything I am trying is not particularly working.

Make sure that you saved it as the map you are compiling as and that you open up the map you compiled it as. A common mistake I had was for example. I saved it as Map1 and Map2. I would do something and compile it on Map2, but then I would do something else save and compile again not realizing that when you save it it keeps it on the map it last save to. Confusing?
So, if you save it two time as Map1 and Map2 and compile it is going to be compiled as the one you last saved to. So if you saved to Map2 first then saved on Map1, it will compile as map1. Check those things. Truck

I am having a slight problem. Whenever I add Light_Evnviorment to my map (I have other texture lights in), It appears that the Light_Enviorment is not lighting my map. What is the problem. My whole map is dark except where I have the textured lights at.

Ok, I am new to the whole map making, but I want to become very good at it. I already have an idea in development called cs_infusiaplex. If you want to know more details email me at amodmatt@hotmail.com. Anyway, I finished drawing out the plans and now I am working with different stuff in Hammer, but I seem to come across a problem. No matter how I make a test map everything seems to be lit up..I have no dark spots no dark tunnels nothing. What am I doing wrong? I have tried all the YT vids, but no-one explains lighting and such. I can't seem to make my map dark or have shadows..any advice or help?
