oh yeahh??!

Completely fucking up all my shit
v

Ben and Jerry is going off the deep end with their new flavors: A Drop of Blood flavor? Completely Fucking up All My Shit flavor?!

The Pleasure Pro 9000™ is a sex toy that robotically says “completely fucking up all my shit,” while in use.

I’ve made a mistake and completely fucking up all my shit isn’t going to be the same. Sorry.

We’re already half way through completely fucking up all my shit, so we might as well finish it off.

Someone get Michael! His girlfriend is drunk, up on the table, and she’s completely fucking up all my shit.

Josh said, on the way in to work today, he swerved around completely fucking up all my shit on the freeway.

I would love to! Did you get an error message other than -7? -7 means there was a GL error and it should show up and start with "GL CALLBACK:"

OK i Fixed it!
First of all, the game cant find textures and shaders!
You need to check bat file. something is wrong.
Also add some kind of log system or MessageBoxA if texture/shader file do not exits. I recommend enabling console.

Same thing with tet-game.
Visual studio project has errors;
1) In timer.c instead of #include <SDL2/SDL.h> you need #include <SDL.h>
2) You are missing x64 lib files in
..\..\common\windows\glew-2.1.0\lib\Release\x64\
3) You are missing x64 lib file in
..\..\common\windows\SDL2-2.0.5\lib\x64
4) Put missing DLLs (glew32.dll, SDL2.dll) in project build pathes (blocko-game\vs2019-blocko\x64\Debug) or switch path to some folder

Why such a strange glow appears at the edge of a block?
Also if you dig underground you can really see edges of the block flickering. Maybe you should apply some vertex shader that will round block coordinates? Or maybe pixel shader that will outline block with same texture.

I used to use headers. I don't like them anymore. Except for libraries and I'm not making those.

This has to do with how the lighting values are applied from the 3d grid to vertexes. An exposed edge or corner has more lit cubes next to it so it's brighter. I'll probably fix by taking the max() value instead of sum().

I'm not sure why this is happening. My understanding is that my shader already computes the same coord for aligned vertexes, and I've been assured by GL that that should result in no gap. But obviously it's not working. I'm going to replace that shader anyway, so I don't want to tweak it right now.

I'm more interested in focusing on performance, compatibility and making the world endless like Minecraft for now.

I wasted a few hours trying to get Blocko to compile with Visual Studio, and then with VSCode, and then with just cl.exe. I did get it to *compile* with cl.exe but it's weird and buggy and crashy. Maybe for C++ reasons? I don't know how anyone gets C to work with Microsoft's tools. It's just too complicated and it wants me to buy stuff.

So anyway I got it to work with https://www.msys2.org/ instead. It's maybe not great but it Works On My MachineTM.

I've committed the new scripts and instructions to my repo: https://github.com/superjer/tinyc.games

It compiles just fine from them solution you provide if you do not add any other files. However it does not work when you run bat file and also game has no console window to report errors and stuff. That is why I started looking into it. Here is my fully fixed MSVC project with updated libraries and headers:

I'm doing great! How are you?

I fixed the .bat file, but you need to follow the instructions to install MSYS2 first. I think it's a lot faster than installing VS since it only takes about a minute.

I will try out your MSVC fixes and them to the project.

I don't really know anything about OBJ files. Usually you need more than a model object for a game level. You need all kinds of collision information, pathing etc, for example that wouldn't be in a model file normally. Depending on the game type.

Games on windows should be compiled only using MSVC compiler. At average it is 5-15% faster.
The project that was before was working fine besides it was missing res and shader folder in project directory, x64 dlls, and also SDL.h
Idk why you had errors.

OBJ is the most basic model format that stores vertices, normals and faces as text. Designed 197X it is still in use and cad display almost anything. It is enough for level since you can storage entity info in object name

code

# cube.obj
#

g cube

You can generate collision from obj file or do it dynamically.
I was trying to make something like that using DirectXTK (https://github.com/microsoft/DirectXTK/wiki/Getting-Started/) I was able to load obj but matrix calculations made made me quit the idea of making my own engine

It's working for me now that I upgraded to Visual Studio 2022. I'll add back in the MSVC files later tonight. I would like to include whatever is needed for most people to be able to build easily. But I don't really know Windows development at all.

For performance I'm not seeing a huge difference between compilers in a quick test:

gcc -O3 ------------ 156 fps
msvc Release ----- 159 fps

....looking from the same spot in the corner of the world with shadow mapping on. It will be interesting to see how this changes as I add stuff.
