I just got done with my new build, I booted it up, installed Windows, and then went to install my mobo drivers, and
 dun dun dun...
BSOD!1111ONE It reads as follows:
 driver_irql_not_less_or_equal
 nvgts.sys
Preparing to dump physical memory kthx
And all this time I'm like This happens constantly. It happens mainly when I'm trying to log on. I've logged on in Safe Mode and recovered to a previous time, and then re-installed my motherboard drivers, but I get the same thing!
  Here are my specs:
MSI P7N Diamond NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Chipset
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) w/ stock cooling fan
 PNY Verto GeForce 9600 GT
 4 G's of Kingston Hyper X RAM (1066)
 Lite-On LiteScribe DVD Drive
Westeren Digital Caviar 500Gb Hard Drive
 Windows XP Homie edition
 Any halp? |

Sounds like a nice computer. Are these the latest drivers? You could try installing an older set to see if the new ones have broken it (though I don't reckon that's likely).
http://pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/showthread.php?t=53947 Could be an helpful link; seems the guy had a similar setup to you (but a wee while ago now). They suggest reinstalling the nVidia drivers but I didn't read past the first page (lazy me; also I have a tutorial soon).

Take out a stick of ram, you tard. XP can only handle 4 GB combined from the Graphics Card AND the Motherboard.
The "nvgts.sys" has nothing to do with that, though, so it probably won't fix that problem. You'd expect "nvgts" to be nVidia GTS (graphics card) or something, but it's not.

If you can selectively install parts of the motherboard drivers, see if you can avoid installing raid related drivers, because I'm pretty sure that is what nvgts.sys is for. Not installing it might fix the problem.

OH! Also, if you can still send your Motherboard back and get a refund and are comfortable with removing and reapplying your CPU to a new board... get an Intel board. Intel-made boards don't have problems.

It can only handle combined stuff? Interesting. This means that I will probably go 64-bit then. And just stay with Ubuntu until I can bear to buy Vista (as Steam runs nicely on Ubuntu this will likely be a while).

You may have misunderstood me. I mean XP can only recognize up to 4 gigabytes of RAM total. Both the sticks on your board and the memory in your video card count towards the total.

No, I got that; I hadn't known that before though. I actually hadn't thought about it, I guess. But with 64-bit it should be able to recognise up to 8 GB, right? Or, you know, I could be wrong.

I have no idea what anything past 32-bit XP can reckanize. But, you know, as Bill Gates once said: "Nobody will ever need more than 16 megabytes of RAM!" So I'm banking on there being another stupid and arbitrary limit.

I thought that the problem was your phisical memory.Maybe it has damaged due to overheat.Try to replace with a new one.It is better if you include the heatsink.

In some cases bringing an old truck back from the impound lot can work. This is not one of those cases. Zim is definitely not going to see your response.

The memory limit is simply what can be addressed using 4294967296 separate addresses, that is, 2^32. The 64-bit editions will remove this limit but obviously replace it with another one (18446744073709551616; roughly 17 million terabytes, I think, could be wrong though).
Also this is another dead truck. Stop it!
I only wanted to post this because I was annoyed at my earlier apparent ignorance.
