I went through the entire tutorial and everything was great but then I compiled the map, it went into the game, it started doing the usual stuff it does when I make a new game (precaching resources etc.) but then when the game should've started I got a black screen. After a few minutes I pressed CTRL+ESC, then clicked on Counter Strike in the Taskbar and then Counter Strike closed and I got this message:


Is there anything I can do?

Can you play other maps?(e.g. the standard maps like de_dust2 etc.)

Do you have Hammer running in background? If so, try closing down Hammer before starting the game.

no luck.

I closed the hammer, went into the game, first tried aim_taliban map and it worked normally.
Then I closed Counter Strike, went into the zhlt (or whatever it is) folder and ran the TestMap.bat file and got the open gl error again.
...and that's the bottom line because Mate de Vita said so.

OK, it works fine if I run it by running Counter Strike, starting a new game and selecting it under maps.

But now I have another problem. The map is completely dark (the map is actually a square room with one light source in the middle of the ceiling).

Check that it is bright enough and that the distance it is set to illuminate is not set too low (for instance there is a flag to set how far the light should go; after that it does nothing). Also make sure that the light is not blocked by any brushes and that finally it is not in or too close to a wall.
