OK be prepared cuz this is alot of problems:

1: Does Cstrike have things like driveable cars and turrets?
2: How do i make water that is transparent, and where you can swim and drown in? Where can i find textures to this/which do i use?
3: How do i add background sounds to my map?
4: how do i make a map edge that has sky on top, and water on the bottom, like in as_oilrig? And how do i make an edge where you fall off, then die after a certain point?
5: How do i make a moving, button activated elevator?

And finally the thing i really need answered, its blocking me from making any maps but the most simple.

I made a map, called it de_bricks.
Bots take the central, obvious way always, but this usually leads to a confrontation in a central chamber without the bomb ever getting planted. So i made a hall from the side of both spawns, that leads to site A. A is connected by a ladder to B, which is right above this. Yet i cannot get bots in any way to take either the ladder or the extra hallways. I know this has probably something to do with waypointing, but only sollution i find is for Source. Again, i have Counter strike 1.6 No Steam, i think this is Counter Strike 1.5. I learned mapping using this tutorial: http://www.superjer.com/learn.php


Also, just a small problem: I start and play counter strike 1.6 no steam. It has a button that says 'change game'. I can switch to half-life, but i can't start any game or so. It just refuses to do anything no matter how many times i click the button, or the game just crashes. No error log, no computer crash, just game quit. Any sollutions/reasons to this?

X: Is there a way to edit a .bsp file in Hammer?
Y: How do i carve one brush using another brush, then make the one i carved with a see-through breakable window?

The FAQ will have answers to most of your questions. Beyond that there are many trucks covering what you want to know.

Thank you, i'll get on it :). Especially the Bots-wont-go-there thing is bugging me, and thats not in FAQ for as far as i see. Thanks anyways :)


And also: After you enter a skybox like it says in the FAQ, how do i make it show? Do i just take the roofs off?

Essentially, the sky box *is* the roof. Kind of. It is not a big box around the map, it's the top part only. There's a pic around here somewhere. Bots... try making a navigation mesh. Or something. I'm afraid I don't really know :p

You can edit the bots navigation thingy manually, but I forgot the commands but I know there is a tutorial here : http://www.twhl.co.za and under the source tutorial section there is a thing about how to make the waypoints for bots in css, which is the same as for bots in 1.6 ...

or you could delete the .nav file in your maps folder and hope that the bots autowaypoint better next time.

Thank you very much :). Now you say it, the bots DO seem to take the other ladders.
Ill defenitely check that out. Problem with the source tutorial was that the code to get the white crosshair didn't work.

Im confused...

Anyways i didn't find the tutorial, but i got it to work by deleting the .nav file. Thanks for the help ;). Only small ladder doesn't work now, but that isn't really a problem

Anybody know where i can download a few good es_ maps?

Also, sorry for all the questions but can anybody explain me what half life is, and how it is related to Counter Strike? Which version goes with what version of cs?
I have only a copy of CS. If i try to switch game to Half life using the Change Game button i can't get half life to do anything :(

Oh - Half-Life is... in fact, I reckon if you Google it, you'll find it. It's quite famous and is the game whose engine CounterStrike is based on. But you play PC games and haven't heard of Half-Life? It came out in like 1998...

I heard about half life, but i didn't really know what it is. For some reason the engine refuses to run half-life, only cs... I also wasn't into FPS games until i found out about cs. Cs is fun, and at least it WORKS on my pc. I recently tried Halo 2, but my processor was too slow :P

Also, those sites where it says: download half-life for free. Those aren't legal, right?

Whats the difference in Steam and non-Steam? And also, i seem to have a few half life files on my computer in the Counter Strike directory. Any idea where i can get a legal copy and how much that would cost me?

Steam makes you pay, and then limits what you're allowed to do. Non-steam... doesn't use steam. I think if you want a legit copy of HL you can get it from steam, but I've seen a few non-steam downloads where it comes with half-life also.

Redemption was a terribly made game. They just threw out some sort of sequel without even trying. There were spelling errors, helllla glitches, and it just didn't make sense.


Wanted, however, was awesome.

Okay, i have one new problem.

In de_bricks, all players start out with a the second (forgot name. Where can i get a list of these?) and third submachine gun (UMP...) availible.
Question is: if you have two guns, which one will you throw away if you buy a new one?

If you set the game_player_equip to give 2 guns, they will keep both.

It doesn't really.

Each time a player starts a round, he gets SMG 2 and SMG 3 (ump), and any weapons that were left over form prev round. If he still had a SMG, it will not be replaced, but he doesn't have two.

I start the game, i recieve the submachine guns. I buy myself a Krieg 550 Sniper Rifle, and my character throws away SMG 2, leaving me with Krieg550 and the UMP smg. If i buy a shotgun then, my character throws away the Krieg550. If i end game with UMP and Krieg550, i get both SMG's again, plus my Krieg. I buy a shotgun THEN, it replaces SMG 2 again, leaving me shotgun, UMP smg, and Krieg550.

Anybody know how to change this, or to know which one will be thrown away?

Also, how do i make it that you get the SMG, plus the standard pistols? (different CT than T)

Half-Life is about $10 on Steam. For the guns, I don't know. It might be a side-effect of giving the players more guns than they are supposed to have.
