i saw cs maps that had moving rats in it .. and yes it was a model .. try searching the net for it
when you found your model insert a cycler_sprite and select the model in the " model " area .. also the model should go into your cstrike/models folder

amm maybe try to compile your map on a different name .. i had problems that persisted and this fixed it
just save and compile it on a different name with a new .bat file
maybe it'll help

and i know its the map you made for the server right ?? so if you compile it and it works ok then just rename the .bsp file to its original name

if you want the text to appear before you literally enter the map ( the credits on the side ) then just do what edan said ..
make a mapname.txt and write in it whatever you want in your map
place it in your cstrike/maps folder and it i'll be fine

to make good wads you need a good photo editing program .. like photoshop or corel photo paint .. i myself use both + corel draw

but for really good textures you need a quality camera , and take good photos to make into textures

models are 3d textured pictures

now you need some kind of modeler program .. like Milkshape ( or download a model <- much easier then learning how to use a program like that )
after you got your model in your cstrike/models/ folder
you put a cycler_sprite in your map and in its properties select the model ..


i don't know much about source mapping

1 piece of advice .. DON'T decompile maps .. its really really hard to get it just to decompile
it works on a basis of transforming all faces into a brush ...
now if you have a rectangle that was 1 single brush , after decompile it will be 6 brushes , now imagine a more complex shape ...

its almost IMPOSSIBLE to re- compile a decompiled map
the program bsp2map was designed to decompile maps so you can view them in hammer .. NOT compile them

even you having vista still shouldn't affect it that much .. i compiled maps on PC's with half of your specs

if it takes you that much there must be something wrong !

i mean if your map isn't the size of Uranus ,
and doesn't have like 50 lights ,
a lot 32 sided cylinders ( and other complex shapes )
& like 1000 textures in it .
then it shouldn't take that long

the most i spent compiling a map was on a map named de_egyptian , it took about 3-4 hours and it was BIG i mean really BIG ( sideways it was very close to the edge of the construction area) , i had about 40-60 custom textures , and a lot of rubble and stuff ( complex shapes )

1 if you use vertex manipulator . then you should texture lock on :
picture

this prevents textures getting really stretched out and stuff

but vertex manipulator can create invalid shapes
i don't really get what you want to do
but if you want to make a wall with a hole in it
then you just need to construct it out of 4 brushes that connect to each other to form a wall with a hole in it

1)you click the tool
2) you move it to the top view
3) you click & HOLD
4) then you drag a box
5) when your done you let go of the mouse button
6) while having the mouse pointer on the object you hit ENTER

there's no frikin way you can get it wrong now

i was lazy to read it all .
but i see many people prefering ps3 over xbox 360 because its more customizable or some shit like that ... but totally ignore the fact that xbox 360 's performance is much better than ps3 ...

i mean if you just look how xbox360 maxes out the graphs in games .. i read a lot about the differences .
in performance the xbox 360 beats ps3 every time .

actually try a combination of the 2 .. cause env_explosion won't take down hp ( or will it ? ) anyway if im right ( not sure ) then you need to use trigger_multiple(s) to trigger the env_explosion , and a trigger_hurt

well "rendermode texture" is used for making the whole texture transparent , if fx amount is lower then 255 ( like for water )
"rendermode solid" and fx amount set to 255 makes the blue parts in textures (like ladder textures) invisible

a gun can shoot trough 1 single brush if its thin enough
but it cannot go trough 2 brushes with air between them. its like 2 separate objects to cs ..
so you can make both walls 1 unit thin , and if they have 1 unit of air between them then its bullet proof .

if you can't fit your map in the grid then , your DOING IT WRONG ! a map shouldn't be so large ,

its a brush entity make a brush and press Ctrl + T and select "trigger_hurt" from the list

if you don't have trigger hurt in your list then download " expert.fgd " from here

its better to try and find the leak or remake all the exterior walls!
use a big skybox only to test out your map but don't leave it like that

in the func_button's properties got to " flags " section i think there is a checkbox there "don't move" or something ( don't have hammer )
and if your button doesn't turn on the light be sure:
1 you named the light
2 in the buttons properties make sure the the lights name is in the "target" area
3 the light isn't touching a slid object cause it won't work then

entities are the things that do something ( move , emit light ...)

there are 2 kinds of entities "point" and "brush-based'
point entities do their job in a single point ( lights ,weapons on the ground ..)

brush entities do their job in an area of a brush (a brush is an object , a 3d shape , whatever is solid and just sits there )
brush entities are made from making a brush and transforming it into an entity (Ctrl + T)
they are the entities with the "FunC_" in front

i once had a problem persisting in hammer .. don't know why .( it wasn't with a model but with some broken wads )
i took out the wads from hammer and the map , but the error still was poping up
so i just saved and complied the map on a different name .
not at all sure it will help you dough

vertex manipulators tricky
you cant make ;
A) very small shapes
B) very flat/thin shapes
C) concave shapes
X) generally no strange looking shapes

and don't screw around to much with a face cause you mite get some errors and the texture on the face a become fucked up

superjers ladder has the extra ting that players can't pass trough it but you can shoot and trow grenades trough it nothing else .

also you just need the textures to make the ladder download zhlt.wad from here and add it in your "hammer - tools - option - textures"

what you need for a simple ladder is 1) a climby part and 2) a solid part

1 : make a thin brush (object rectangle whatever you call it)
apply the AAAtrigger texture on it (from zhtl.wad)
press Ctrl + T and select func_ladder from the list
this is invisible
2: solid / visible part
make another brush, put a ladder texture on it,
put it exactly behind the Climby part ( so they are touching )
make it as thin as your ladder would be in real life

now for superjers ladder (the best one)
1 make the climby part just like before with aaatigger texture

2 make a brush and apply a ladder texture , now press ctrl + T and select "Func_illusionary" this will make it non-solid but visible

3 make one last brush and put the "Clip" texture on it ( also from zhlt.wad ) place this one behind the visible part

any brush that has "clip" texture on it is:
invisible
stops players like a normal wall
lest you shoot/ trow grenades trough it like it was air

thats about it ( this is a really long detailed explanation )

is everything on the same drive ? ( your cs should also be on that drive )
also are all the wad files you had in hammer in the cs folder ?
make sure that all the paths to your wad files in "hammer -> tools -> options -> textures " are where the actual wadfile is (but only if you moved any wads from the lace you added them)

also if you have ZHTL on drive D then all your wadfiles should be on drive D to

so everything on the same drive .

EDIT : i got this error sometimes when i had strange brushes in my map . check for any very small or strange shaped brushes

like for example i had a cylinder that had 32 faces and was about as big in game as a rope in real life , and it caused that error

if you carved with any strange shapes , or just have some strange shapes then that mite also be the cause of the problem

all things concerning you map ( except hammer ) should be on the same drive , also if you use a .wad file and move it to a different place ( like from your desktop to your CS folder ) you have to take it out of hammer and add it from the new path ( place )

All wad files used should go into your "cstrike" folder .

also the error can be caused by a typo in your .bat file
make sure that all paths in the bat fie are precise .

yeah i didn't install hammer to check your problem .. but i was pretty sure you said that the spawnpoints where off the ground ..
whatever overlaping brushes just eat up space and make a laggy map .

this is the problem , but you said you have entities ,

( the thing with the respective buyzones , not needed , when you put a player start a buyzone is automatically generated at the spawnpoints, and you don't need separate buyzones you can make one big one )

now back to the error try searching for entities outside your map , im pretty sure this is a leak
check your walls and make sure you didn't accidentally make a wall , that connects with the "void" outside , into an entity

but you can find a lot of things on leaks from others

OOH edan , yeah you know that "check for problems" isn't worth shit 90% of the time , ok so its the most useful thing with invalid brushes, but besides that....

you need to move them to their respective places .


1 ) make 1 rectangle in the top view
2 ) make another one still in top view exactly where the other brush is
3 ) go to the side view , and click the " selection tool " , and select one of the brushes made in top view ( by clicking on it ) .
4 ) click and hold the rectangle , then drag up , or down , so it still stays parallel to the other brush .

5) do the same things in the other views to form all the other walls ...

i don't have hammer on this laptop , but its just like the pictures in the tutorial . just make 1 bush in the top view , 1 brush in the side view , 1 brush in the front view . and then again on the opposite sides ,.


OR you know what just select your brush ( with the selection tool ) and go to " tools -> make hollow " and click ok . then you should have a hollow map . with 6 walls

select the " brush tool " in the "top " view click+drag to make a rectangle . in the "side" view do the same only make the second brush ( rectangle ) to connect with the first one at the bottom , and so on till you get a box ....

you only made 1 single fucking rectangle , you need to have 6 rectangles that connect to form a box ... get it ?
if you drag on 1 of those handles you can make your brush thinner , to form 1 wall , the make another one to form a second wall . and so on

well i don't put it trough my steam folder , i put it trough my cs1.6 /cstrike folder . but usually when i get an invalid directory or something it means that the path in the .bat file isn't pointing to an actual folder . ( it could just be 1 letter )

if you just want to change your sky in your map then go to " map - > map properties -> cl_skyname window " and in that window write a name of a sky ( Without The " CL_ " At Beginning )

Omg have you seen de_arkanos before ? it has spiraling columns not just a simple cylinder ( just google image " de_arkanos " you'll see what im talking about )

to make more complex shapes use vertex tool .

for that column start with a shape that has edges ( number of edges = number of twists the column has ) . and then twist them to form a spiraling column . i would start with either a triangle or a block .

but make it in segments , not just 1 whole cause it will be either very hard or impossible .

be sure to make all complex shapes into entities like func_wall so the compliers won't have trouble with it

Oh yeah and don't make concave shapes out of single brushes

it works for cs .. all versions from 1.4 to condition zero and non steam are the same when it comes to maps . only a little difference in bots and stuff like that . and versions before 1.4 have the same basis so they will also work .

how about you make a texture that holds all the darts and has transparent parts between the darts , then you make a wall

make it a func_train
apply the texture
set rendermode to solid
fxamount 255
and in the "flags" area check the "not solid " box
also set a pretty high speed for the func_train
make a trigger_multiple at the entrance of your ( whatever )

and then make it trigger the func_train that will fly trough you and it will look something like darts

and if you want the guy to get hurt then make a trigger_hurt ( or whatever its called ) and set its effects to be delayed right to the point when the wall should hurt the player .

it mite just look similar to what you want ( not all that good but its worth a try )

PS : what i said above was not tested .. so it mite not work

1 where the fuck can you go "out" in de_dust ?? you mean like outside the map in the black void ? if the map connects directly to the black void then thats a leak , and the map won't work .
now if you are playing the map , and somehow ( do to server problems , scripts , cheat ) you get out of the maps space somehow , the thats not the maps fault ....

EDIT : ohh yeah !when you go in to spectator mode ( or die ) you can fly out of the map ... thats because you can pass trough blocks in that mode , so theres no problem ( was that what your talking about ??? )

you cant make a brush smaller that 1 unit ( the smallest grid size )

you just need to make the grid smaller to make smaller brushes

and i don't believe that you need something smaller than 1 unit
1 unit is very very small
for example an info_player_start is 32 units wide , and 72 units tall
so you get how small 1 unit is , if you make a hole 1 unit wide 1 unit tall, then you won't even be able to see trough it

you not having an err file or a log file is disturbing , you should re download and extract zhtl compliers , and then put your files ( bat 'n whatever ) back there comply and see if any mapname.log file appears

how to use zhtl.wad :

zhtl.wad is a wadfile , wads are collections of textures , textures are pictures that you put on a block .

now all you have to do is :

1) download it from the link specified ( like somewhere you can find it )
2) Run valve hammer editor
3) go to tools -> options -> textures -> ADD WAD button ,
4) select zhtl.wad
5) click apply & ok

6) look at your pretty , new textures !
you can select witch wad you want to use from the " texture group " dropdown window in the upper right corner

just be sure to follow the tutorial that Edan already posted exactly

the things there like "rendermode" and stuff like that , are in the entities properties

i think the hole for the trap door is just to small for a player to fit trough ( you know a player is like a big block like what you see in hammer )
just make sure that the hole is wide enough ( make it wider and test if you have the same problem )

or put a player spawn in the trap door and see if its to small or not . it should be at least 1 unit larger then the player spawn , so it can fall trough without touching

or make sure you don't have a little brush ( like something left from carving ) in the way ..

if yes then delete the mapname.bsp ( and any other file of your map ) file from your cstrike /maps folder . and try to enter the game again and load a different map ..and if the map loads normally then its because of you map . but if it doesn't then it mite be the game


cause i had the same thing happen and i wasn't because of my map ( i think Non steam does this the most , or if you install some new skins and stuff . and the map just tips it off )

i don't care of the execution or the realism ,
all i care is the basic idea / plan of the whole thing .
It can be 1 colored completely square shapes an it still could be a good map .. just because of the basic design

anyway when i make a map i just concentrate on the main shapes, the plan and make it playable , workable ( with 1 texture all around ) then after i tested it and its good , then i start the texturing , and the detail work ( and correcting things as i go ).

this is good when you don't have a detailed idea / sketch of the map .. so you use shapes and thing that you can easily correct after testing .. and because its not so complex you can comply much faster

well if i have to ... i will come up with some retarded idea in the next few seconds that was , more then likely , already made by some retard :

1) a de_map:
make something like the opposite of cs_assault
like a big factory full of weapons ( nuclear also , that should be at the bomb sites , but also a lot of crates of weapons and stuff ) ct's spawn inside and need to defend the factory from the terrorists
who spawn outside and need to rush inside and plant the bomb
( this map will hardly be playable , because of the great advantage the ct s have , this could be counterbalanced by disabling buying for ct s and then they have to go after there weapons , thats the whole idea behind it being a weapons factory , so they can find every kind of stuff in certain places)

2) an aim_map , or awp_map :
its simple have 2 large bridges / flats / cliffs /
i would go with bridges . you could make some model of the golden gate bridge , have it like a 1:4 scale , so its not all that big ... you can make it , in some parts , climbable so people can go up for an awp if its an aim_map , or for grenades or something if its an awp_map .
you could make some func_trains and make them look like cars , and have them moving around for a complex cover , but i think golden gate bridge has a pretty good stationary cover .

3 )

using the same idea , you could also make a cs_map .. so the T's have occupied the bridge and are holding hostages , and ct s have to climb up from boats to the bridge and save the hostages

the whole place wouldn't have much cover , excepting cars and stuff ( of course in this scenario the cars should be stationarry as well , so T's can camp ) ..
maybe you can make a shot down helicopter wreck somewhere for extra big cover
( it should have the doors blown out so it can be like a mini bunker for players )

well yeah for a few minute idea not bad

origin texture can be found in zhtl.wad and halflife.wad <-can be found in cs /hl valve folder


you door will rotate on the middle of the origin-brush basically anything that moves needs an origin brush included

make a single room box and have it pitch black ( no lights ) , put a game_player_equip and set it to give knives only , and disable buying . put a couple of obstacles just for fun( maybe even traps ).

and see the little worms run around and knife each-other , purely listening for the movement

the line shows the path the complier takes ....

trace the line back and you should find your leak ... it can be hard sometimes ..

first of all make sure that no entities are outside your map , or are touching the " black void " outside

sometimes people accidentally make a wall that is touching the outside into an entity . entities are not counted as "solid" , so for the complier its like you don't have a wall there at all ....

and if your sure that you don' have any entities touching the outside , then first try to find it in hammer sometimes its easier , sometimes its not .


the best way to avoid this is to make the outer walls first , and while making walls like that be sure to use a big grid size

damn what don't you get from that ??? extract everything from the goddamn zip folder that you downloaded and then put them where it says

right click the folder and press " extract here "
select all of the files that you just extracted and then press Ctrl+C

then go where you installed hammer and open " Hammer/fgd/counter-strike " folder and press Ctrl+V

now open hammer and go to Tools->Options->Game Configurations->Game Data Files and there click the "add " button on the right and select the fgd

by vents i guess you mean the ends of the vents that you can shoot to pieces ...
( or if you want space where you move then just construct out of brushes )

you need them to be breakable so make your brush put a texture on it that looks like a vent ( can be found in cstrike or halflife.wad )
then press Ctrl + T and selct " func_breakable "

in the "strength " area write a value ( the bigger the value the more you have to soot it to break )

and in the " material type " area select " metal "

thats about it

oh and if you have a vent-texture that has blue parts in it then also set this :

" Render Mode " to "solid"
and " FX amount " to "255"

this will make the blue part invisible so you can see trough it

you can make textures with wally

with wally you can make a picture into a texture in a .wad file
you put the wad in hammer and there you go

you need some kind of drawing / picture editing program to make some pictures that you can lode into wally

paint is good if you only want to make text

and select what weapons you want it to give ( by default it gives nothing )

the game player equip gives the selected weapons ( and ammo if you put any ) to all players in the map

if you don't select any weapon to be given then players will spawn with no weapons in there hands

if you don't have game_player_equip in your list then go here and download " expert.fgd " and read what it says there to "install" it

to put guns on the ground

select the " entity tool " ( the one that looks like a light bulb )

then in the list from the right select " armoury_entity " then put it somewhere in your map

now in the properties in the " item " space select the weapon you want it to be

in the " count " area write how many copies of the weapon should be placed

and there you go you have a weapon on the ground that people can pick up and shoot with

this happens because your textures are bigger / smaller then the brush you want to apply them to
for example you want to apply a door texture that is 256 X 128 px ( pixels) and the brush is only 128 X 64 Px large . so only a part of the full texture is applied

just select the brush with the texture and press Alt +Shift
in this window you can set a lot of things

first there is the button " fit " this compresses / stretches the texture to fit the selected brush-face
and then there is :
L ( left ) aligns the texture to the left side ( in normal size )
R ( right ) and so on ....
T ( top )
B ( bottom )
C ( center ) centers the texture ( in normal size )

and then there is scale ( you can scale down / up the texture manually )

and there is shift ( you can move the texture manually )

and finally there is rotation you can rotate the texture on the brush-face ..


EDIT :: Using "fit" in to many places will cause errors and will just fuck up a lot of things so be careful not to use it on very large brushes

umm maybe its the game your using ? ...

you sure you put 2 walls that have air between them ? not any kind of brush because if there are more brushes connecting then its just like there was only 1 brush ..

but if you have no brush what so ever between 2 brushes then a bullet can't go trough it ( unless you use cheats )

pls check to make sure that there really is nothing connecting the 2 brushes .

cause it mite look like there separated in the 2D views but actually are not ... you mite have a brush between them that you didn't see

hmm strange .. there are some maps that ive seen that work just fine for players but bots just don't move at all / get stuck in walls in those maps ..

ive found that this can be repaired ( some times ) by going into your maps folder and deleting mapname.nav file and then opening your map in the game ( Not in test mode ) and letting the bots learn it again ..

this works ( sometimes ) because the bots had some problem learning the map , if it was just a one-time error then the bots should learn it correctly the next time , if not then there is something thats not working right

this could be something in your map , the game mod that you use mite have some problem

i saw that in most cases knife-only ( ka_ ) maps have this kind of problem , or if a map has some strange stuff in it , that bots can't really " understand "

but you said that you don't have anything complex in your map ..

what game did you open it in ? did you get any kind of error :
A ) while complying
B ) when trying to test the map

check your .log file ... and maybe post whats in your console when you try to play your map .

amm well that depends if you just make it a simple see-trough 1 layer glass ( that is thin enough ) than you can shoot trough it ...

to make something completely bulletproof :

in the game a bullet can only go trough a single brush ,
bullets cannot go trough 2 brushes that have air between them ...

so if you make 2 glass walls with 1-2 units space between them , then you can't shoot trough it ...

the advantage of this is that the 2 walls can be really thin ( making it more life-like than a glass wall that is a meter across )
and if you make a single wall then you have to make it wide so stronger weapons ( eg: Awp ) can't shoot trough them

hammer can open rmf and .map files you don't have to rename anything .....

there are 3 tipes of files :

.rmf this is the valve hammer editor file
.map this file can be read by BOTH hammer and zhtl compliers
.bsp this is the file that cs / hl can read but hammer cannot ...

amm you can open any .map file from anywhere on your pc with hammer don't need any special program to open it .....

2 ) put 2 stop points ( i think there called path_track or path_stop or something like that ) name the first one " stop1 " and the second one " stop2 "

then go back to your func_train and there should be a " stop target" ( or something like that )
in there write the first stops name Eg: stop1

and i think in the stop points properties there should be a space where you can set the other stop point ... maybe "next stop point/target " anyway just put the name of the second stop in that space ...

then put some kind of trigger

like a trigger_multiple ( this is the only one i know without a look in hammer )
set its target to be the func_trains name

ps im not sure of any name in my explanation ...


EDIT : the stop point are point entities , the trigger_multiple is brush based ...
the 2 stop points should be at the edge of the area you want the func_train to move at ..

oh if you want a single button to turn on more lights then just give all the lights the same name ( in theory this should work )


like make your brush change it into a func_button ( ctrl+t)
make your light(s) and name it/them someting like "light1" or " Mikey Mouse "
go back to the func_buttons properties ( Alt + enter to open properties ) and in the target area write the name of the light ( eg light1 )

its like the files are still in the folder , but are invisible and i just can't touch them .... but i don't care its good that i had some of my .rmf files on a USB stick so its not a total loss ...

i didn't send anything when i opened the folder it only had those 3 maps in it

but now i put the zhtl.zip in the folder, opened the folder and it was gone tried copying it and it appeared when i extracted it it said that all the files are still in the folder

but trigger_teleport is a brush based entity

( make a brush and press Ctrl + T to make it an entity then if you installed expert.fgd corectly then it should be there )

wow its a better solution .. but still the result won't bee very good ...

so our advice :
decomply maps only to view them in hammer
and just make your version of the map from scratch

it helps to have the map running to see the details so you can make a pretty good copy ..

i mean just look at the simple map fy_iceworld decomplyed : click for pic

and also when i loaded it in hammer 21 solids didn't load .. so it has a leak in the floor ...

i tried diablo2 with every char and took all of them at least to lvl 74 .. the only lvl 99 char i have are 2 paladins 1 amazon 1 barbarian and an assasin ..

the shittyest one i've had is a necomancer lvl 74 and can hardly kill mephisto on hell .. i just didn't find any good stuff with him

the best one is my favorite paladin lvl 99 and i can pretty much leave him in front of bail on hell as long as i want , pretty much my bow-girl kills him in a few minutes ...

you know decomplying a map takes a lot of time , some maps won't even decomply at all ..

and if you think complying a decomplied map like ex de _dust is easier than making it from scratch , then you got it mixed up !

i decopmlied one of the simplest maps fy_iceworld and it came out very complex , had leaks , and was pretty fucked up in general

had to spend about 30 minutes to make it comply able . then just trew it in the trash and made it from scratch in like 10-20 minutes
so just think about it ....


you know the program works by making every single face into a brush

so if you had a square that was a single brush , after decomply it will be 6 different brushes with air between them , so thats X6 more complex ,
now apply that to a more complex shape , like a twisting stair and you get what im saying ....

the sky in any map is a simple brush that has the " sky " texture on it ( found in zhtl.wad or halflife.wad )

and also by default the sky looks like in de_dust ( or whatever )

if you want to put a sky that looks different then you need to do the following :

click " map -> map properties -> environment map ( cl_skyname ) " and tipe the desired skys name

Ctrl + T to make a brush an entity

Alt + Enter to see an entityes properties , and also change them

and the layers DON'T HAVE TO BE OVERLAYING / OVERLAYING ( or whatever word that describes them to be put in the same space ) !

you need to put them one on top of the other ...

1 the " climby part " wich is a func_ladder (this is a surface that a player can climb on )

2 the " visible part " wich is a func_ illusionary ( a func_illusionary , like its name says , is an illusion , you can walk straight trough it , its not solid )

3 the layer that stops players but lets you shoot trough it
it is a normal brush that you put the " Clip " texture on ( found in zhtl.wad , halflife.wad )
( the clip texture makes a normal brush completely invisible , and it will stop players like a normal wall , but will allow you to shoot/trow grenades trough it)

now thats an explination for you

what would mean that you didn't put info_player_starts ( CT spawn ),
but you did put info_player_deathmach ( T spawn ) ... so this would mean that you mite have accidentally put info_player_deathmach-es to both teams ,

but you also said that you could spawn as a CT but couldn't move right ?

that happened to me once never really cared to know how to fix it ...

try selecting your brush and pressing Shift+ A , then in camera view select ( click on) the face of the brush that doesn't have the texture on it and then select the texture from the list and click Apply

not a 100% on this .. haven't opened hammer in bout 2 months

yeah looks like that

"brush outside world" means that the mentioned brush is outside the area where your allowed to make your map ( the edge )

now that this " brush 0 " is an exploded brush , this means that it has 1 or more sides that are endless ( very very long ) this side can be very thin/small so you may not observe it .

this is usually caused because you carve with a complex shape / wrong vertex manipulation

just check if you can see a brush over the edge of your map

yeah it took me a while to figure out the prime combination of a good maze , 3 turns till bout lvl 70 then when the flying creeps come i loose some life , then after like 80 i couldn't really stop them but after the 3 try i realized that towers need to be upgraded all throughout the map , and developed some nice tactics

you know its made with clip-brush and func_illusionary so you can shoot /trow grenades trough it .. you cant trow a grenade trough a func_wall

for a trap door that opens not breaks you need to make a rotating door :

1 make your door brush ( can be composed from as many brushes as you want )

2 make a smaller brush (where the hinge would go ) and put the "Origin" texture on it ( found in zhtl.wad , halflife.wad ) the door will rotate around the middle of the origin-brush

3 now select your door-brush and origin-brush ( by holding down Ctrl ) and press Cntrl + T , to make it an entity , from the list select " func_door_rotating " , you can set the distance the door will open by default its 90 deg

4 to make it rotate on X or Y axis , select your door and press alt + enter to see its properties , cilck the "flags" and there check X or Y axis for a trap door it should be X axis i think

1 your wad files should be in your cstrike folder

2 you must write the name of your .wads in nowadtextures or wadinclude exactly ( eg : - nowadtextures cstrike.wad mapname )

3 you mite have an invalid / broken / bad .wad

and the shoottrough wall shouldn't be to wide cause weapons will shoot trough walls but only till a certain amount

if you want a wall that you can shoot trough from any distance and with any weapon ( and that isn't invisible )

try this

make a wall and put "Clip" texture on it ( this will make the brush invisible and let you shoot trough it , but doesn't let players go trough )

then copy that wall so you have 2 walls like that ( these 2 are invisible)

then put another wall between them with a normal texture on it
press Ctrl+T to make it an entity ,
now select func_illusionary from the list .

so you need :
2 clip-textured walls ( should be thin ) and in the midle of them a normal-textured wall that is a func_illusionary

this will stop players , but you can trow grenades and shoot trough it , and you won't be able to see trough / walk trough it


HINT: make sure not to have air between them

is your map in your maps-list in game ? if not then copy your map manually to your cstrike/maps folder

and then check the red part in your .bat file and see if yours is pointing to your ACTUAL maps folder

but the "jump" is a " trigger_push " ( brush based entity )

make a brush and put AAAtrigger texture on it then make it an entity and select trigger_push

trigger_push pushes you in a certain direction , you can enter how fast it pushes you and stuff

if you want it to push you up in the air ( i think thats what you need ) then construct a ramp out of normal brushes and place the trigger push inside them


about the floating text ( i don't know what you want really )

it can be 2 things ( im guessing )

1) make a brush with the writing that you want ( just construct it , or make a texture with wally) then make it a func_train and set it's path the way you want it to move


2) is a game_text ( point entity ) in its properties write what you want it to say ,

then in the " name " area write a specific name like " text1 "

then make a trigger_multiple ( you actually need more depending on when you want the text to appear )

in the trigger_multiples properties in the "target " section add the game_text's name ( eg writhe " text1 " )

the trigger_multiple will activate the game_text when a player touches it.

so place it in front or around your spawnpoints

the game_text appears like in the map 35_hp ( if you know it )
the round starts and it says floating in white " you only have one stab use it wisely "

now when your done make it an entity ( ctrl +T )

select func_door

from the list select " pitch yaw roll "

and in the top right corner there is angle from angle's drop down list select " up " ,

or just write -90 ( negative 90 ) in place of the first 0

try searching for very long or very strange shapes in your map ..
the "brush outside world " error means that the mentioned brushes are at the edge of your mapspace ( the place that has lines ) .

your map must not be outside that space , or even very close to that space

you mite have some kind of crazy brushes , probably a result of vertex manipulation , or carving with a complex shape ...

you should put your wad in the folder you want to keep it , before you put it in ..<- don't ask


to import wads in hammer just open hammer go to " tools / options / textures / ADD WAD " then find the wad you want

don't use more than 8 wads at a time cause your gonna have problems

yeah i used the same thing for my last map ( only that i put trigger multiples around the players like edan said )

and i had the doors open when the player reaches the door ( it was a 1 sec delay so by the time he gets to the door it will open automatically ) but its basically the same thing

complying takes up a lot of CUP so don't run other programs besides complying,

and about 5-10 min ( depending on how fast your pc is ) is normal for a simple map like that , textures also count to comply time

oh and lights

light = just a simple light-bulb that spreads light all around its self ( like rodeo said )

light_spot = is a spotlight so it concentrates its light on a small area

light_environment is a very useful entity you just need to place 1

light_environment makes your sky emit light , you just place one anywhere in your map and your sky/skys will emit light

you also need to trigger it ..

eg: use a trigger_multiple , name your game_text ( properties/name )
something like "text1"
then in the trigger_multiple's properties in the "target" area write the game_text's name

and put the trigger multiple ( you can put more not just 1 ) somewhere in the path of the player

cause trigger multiple triggers its target once a player touches it


you know like in 35_hp ( if you played that ) a text appears and it says " you only have 1 stab use it wisely "

thats done by having a game_text and just putting the triggers right in front of the spawnpoints

like havokk said if its a de_ map ( and teams are = in every point of view ) then T's have the basic advantage ( what is easily overcome with a little bit of tactic .. eg : camping at the bombsite )

but if its a cs_ map then ct's have the basic advantage
combine that with stealth ( provided by silenced weapons that they have ) and its a good advantage
(but this can also be overcome with basic technique)

i just remembered that i played it on my own server and i couldn't pick up the weapons only by trowing away the old weapons after like 4-5 round i could get all my weapons in my " inventory " ...

( you know you get m4 and ak at the start so you switch them with other 2 , then you get a noter set of m4 and ak the next round . and so on )

so i think it could be something like a server setting or i don't know

well it seems that your map is to close to the edge of space ( the part that still has lines ) brushes ( walls and such ) musn't bee close to the edge of your map-space , pls check if any brushes/part of your map is to close to the edge

If yes then select all of your map by dragging a rectangle around it with the select tool and move it away from the edge

amm expert.fgd is NOT A TEXTURE FILE IT DOESN'T SAY EXPERT.WAD IT SAYS EXPERT.FGD

expert.fgd gives you aces to all entities in hammer

textures :

1 calm down !

2 open valve hammer editor

3 go to tools / options / textures

4 click ADD WAD

5 select the .wad file you want to add

6 click open

7 look at your pretty textures

you should copy your wads in your cstrike / hl folder so you don't have problems in the game ( be carefull with wads cause if you move them from the original directory then they will become un-textured )

btw a lot of good/usefull textures are in haflife.wad found in your valve folder

and be carefull if you move your wads into a different folder , or uninstall cs , then your map will become un-textured , and you have to re-texture it , or move your wads back to the original directory

well it looked like you have little spaces or size differences within your tower brushes

but the major problem is that at the back of the towers there is sky brush .. for me objects in front of a sky brush usually :

melt away , can't be seen fully , look strange ..

try to place a solid brush behind your tower ... see if it solves the problem ( the ultimate answer is to make normal walls just as high as your towers , so there is no sky behind your brushes )

yeah you get annoyed but you gotta remember ( that you were a newbie once to ) i always try to remember that but most of the times i just get angry and shout


if you got expert.fgd then you also can put a game_player_equip ( point entity )

this one gives all players in the map the same weapons without them having to pick them up you just need to make 1 single game_player_equip in the map and then select it and press Alt+Enter
to see the properties and set what weapons and how many bullets you want it to give ( by default it doesn't give anything )

and for glass you just make a brush with a texture that looks like glass ... press Cntrl+T to make it an entity and select func_breakable ( if you want breakable glass )

after that set "render_mode" to texture

and Fx_amount to the desired value i usually use about 100 , or smaller value so its good and transparent

so like you make 2 rotating door that turn opposite ways ( func_door_rotating )

and expert.fgd needs to bee copied to the folder mentioned in the tutorial

".wad" flies need to be added in hammer like so :

go to hammer . tools / options / textures /add wad

don't add more than 8 ( wad files contain textures that you use in hammer )

what else? amm zhtl compliers need to be extracted into a folder

just make a new folder the place you want them to be then copy the .zip file there , then right click / "extract here" and thats about it

so you want to make a rotating door that separates in the middle right ?? ...
its simple you just make 2 rotating doors facing each other

so you just make your door (as many brushes and textures as you want , long as they can be held together ) now you make a new brush and put "origin" texture on it .
the origin-brush is basically the hinge that your door will rotate on .. so you put the origin-brush to the required place ( like in the pic from the tutorial ) the door will rotate on the middle axis of the origin-brush .

now after this is done you select your door & origin-brush and press the to entity button ( Ctrl + T )and then select frunc_door_rotating from the dropdown list ....( so that they form a single entity , do not make them separate entities )

thats basically it you can set some properties ( like explained int the tutorial )

to make a double door just make another door that will rotate the opposite way ( by putting the origin-brush on the other side )

you have used about 40 textures in your map , each from different wads you downloaded from sites ( so that other people don't have them by start ) and if you don't include them then you'll have to send all the wad files that the other guy doesn't have , or if you post it on a site then you'll have to put all the wads in there

now if you use wadinclude than that includes all the textures from the wads ...

if you use nowadtextures it includes only the textures used in your map , thus making it have a smaller filesize then with wadinclude


but if you use textures from wads that every one else has like cstrike.wad , and the original maps wads then you don't need to use these commands

or you can use carve ....
so you put a little brush into a big brush and then select the little brush first and then the big brush ( holding cntrl so there both selected) then go to tools/carve , this will make a hole in your big brush the same size as your little brush

don't carve with cylinders and any other strange brushes cause it'll get complicated

yeah but the writing you want to make cant really be made by brushes .. you really should use wally to make a few textures it isn't hard ...

if you don't want a separate .wad with your map then use " -nowadtextures " in you .bat file ( like listed below ) this will add all your textures into the .bsp file so you don't have to bother sending it to people

just copy the brush ( hold shift + dragging with mouse ) and then resize it to make one of the side walls , then you just move that one ( same way ) to make another wall , then resize those to make the other 2 walls , then copy the bottom brush and move it ( in one of the side views ) to the top to make the ceiling

you just basically make a box with the top brush having the sky texture . its just a normal brush nothing special just the texture on it , so its still solid you can't walk/shoot trough it

you know if you put a solid , textured wall behind your objects then they won't melt away like that ( any solid object that is in front of a sky will do that, so the solution is to have a wall ( with normal texture that will be about the same hight as your tallest objects , or at least as tall as the objects you want to see fully from any distance )

Hay look its not good to decompile maps !

it sucks big time! it alters the whole map and makes it 1000 times more complicated

the program was designed only to make the map viewable in hammer not workable ... if you try to comply a decompiled map , it wont work !

it works by making every face ( side or whatever ) into a different brush ... so take a cube , in th normal map its 1 brush . after decompile its 6 brushes , so the map will be just to complex for zhtl to comply it ...

and it won't even decompile big/ complex maps . it'll just get an error ..

so the only thing its good for is to find out how things work in the map . ( im talking about entities , and how they work together )

about the water the water texture should have " ! " in front ...
and you make it a func_ water .. you set the render mode to texture and fx amount to aprox 100 so its transparent

( i bet you already knew that but i posted it so other guys can read it and won't post the same question a million times )

yeah don't worry about that zhtl doesn't care as long as you don't have any strange shapes .... cause it works by breaking everything up into squares, so if you have some strange shapes its much harder for zhtl to work .And a lot of times it just gets an error because of this.

it mostly applies just to a single volume , so you can make stranger shapes out of more brushes but, it still mite cause an error

if you have sky in your map then put a light_environment ( point entity ) anywhere in your map this will make your sky emit light

if you don't have "light_environment " in your entity list then download expert.fgd from superjers tutorial

EDIT : you know i noticed that objects in front of the sky texture can't be seen from a distance ( its like they move behind / inside the sky ) .. if you put a solid brush behind them then they are visible from any distance

actually the simplest way to do it is to make your wall strait , select it , then go to tools / transform set it to rotate and set the amount you want it rotated on an axis

uhhhum doesn't a cylinder come out as 1 single brush

you may have forgot the part of making a cylinder and then going to tools / make hollow and setting the number to the thickness you want your wall to be .... then ungroup it and delete the walls you don't want

if you want to make a twisting stair , then you can construct it out of separate brushes , but thats pretty hard ...

i can get a nice stair by setting the "block tool " form "block" to " arch " and then drag a square the size you want your stair .... then a window pops up with the arches properties , now here you can specify what you need ,, the most important is that you set a hight , an angle ( "Arc" ) and just the right amount of sides .. if you do stuff correctly then you can get a perfect little twisting stair ....

its really time consuming to find the right settings the first time but i think its simpler then making it out of separate brushes

why ?? google it when you got mapper right heres ?

mostly it depends on what kind of stair you want to make ....

if you want to make a simple strait stair , then all you have to do is construct it out of simple brushes ,

so you make a brush the size of 1 step of you stair , then by holding shift + dragging it you make a new step the same size , put it so the 2 steps are touching at the corners ,

now select both steps and press ctrl +G to group them together .. now repeat the proses until you have the stair you desire ...

if the stair is to big then don't worry .. select all of it and resize it by dragging it down in the upper and one of the side views

yeah in hammer there are 4 small windows , 1. is the 3D the other are top adn 2 sides ..

you can copy the brushes by holding shift and draging ,

to make the ceiling just drag the bottom brush up in one of the side views

its not all that complicated , just try not to panic and use your head

yeah once i had to wait 8 hours till i found out that i missed a line in the batch file , its strange what problems a little letter can do

strange fact : the first map that people make tend to not work ,

like for eg: ME i made my first map helped by supers and it complied but once it was in the game it got a hl error and crashed , so i made the exact same map with a different name and pow it worked just fine ... still don't know what was with that first one

it would be simpler for you if you didn't want the buttons to work then you could just make those a func_train /or part of your elevator

maybe you could by putting one ontop another ? so like in the floors where you press the button there will be a button , but when your elevators moving there will be a little func_train that looks like a button , what im saying may be a little far of but what the hell

env_sprite same thing as env_glow ( just a picture ) ( don't really know ) but i think env_sprite was there in downloaded files on lots of maps that had teleporters

i know the map , maybe its env sprite

i once wanted to do something similar to that , that you make several rooms connected by teleports , each with diferent weapons . in fun_allinone you get weapons instantly when you teleport in a room , and dropp the weapon in the next round , but not instantly a few seconds pass before you drop your weapon , the others said that it can't really be done in hammer

but i think it can be done somehow if you trigger some player equips right

since then i learnd a lot so maybe ill try to do it again

yeah i like adventure games .
i just said that the storyline needs to be more specific ( so like tell us about the full story and such ) what is written down there is good for a main presentation of the game . you don't have to make a storyline ( or at least until your not done with the game , cause you mite add some stuff and then would have to re-write the story ) but i think its a very nice addition to any kind of game

and yes most of the posts ( not all ! ) are right cause your posting your updates while we don't know the specifics of the game , we are interested

amm... can't you do it with the flags ? O_o to lazy to open hammer right now but if you make an entity then in the window there should be a tab named flags with witch you can edit stuff ,

eg: you can make a rotating door and in the flags tab set it to rotate on z , x or y axis so you can make a trap door , or any kind of rotating door

look it up maybe you'll succeed ( or your gonna wait for superjer , 99% chance that he knows how to do it )

You need to disable extension hiding in Windows.

you need to see file extensions
cause if there hidden then its not really a .bat file ... you see it as mapname.bat but it actually is mapname.bat.txt

everyone needs to read the tutorial step by step an double check that he did everything that the tutorial says , and he shouldn't have any problem . But since people never read the tutorial with attention , they get an error/problem and then panic and think that there is something wrong with the tutorial ( and with every1 else who used it ) and nobody ever thinks of retracing their steps to see where they did something wrong

yeah i have a little problem with Pe$t here ( hes an idiot )

he says that if finisher coso's carved out of rock, then he should have much wider shoulders then in my drawing , hes going more along lines of a stone golem ( you know big, heavy, wide shoulders and very ugly piece of rock )

i made my sketch more like a normal skeleton ( just a bit wider and stranger form ) and carved out of rock with sharp metallic edges ( so its more like a metallic rock not a simple color )

maybe the metallic part isn't that good but i think that it would be overreacting to make it more like a stone golem then a skeleton

oh yeah pest i almost forgot
few suggestions :

1:loose the fy_mercenar_xxx from the name cause people will think it has porn content

2: change the sky ! the default sky just ruins the whole feel of it ,( i would make a "city1" sky for it )

3: since you have a sky use light_environment ( point entity )
that will make your sky brush emit light

4: make it darker ! its annoyingly bright ( if you set light_environment to 200 its more than enuff . )

yes it is hard but i have my own techniques for that ( i usually have a less defended town in a more resource based strategic location , mostly at the back of the fortified town , or hidden somewhere at the edge of the map .)


BTW yes i do attack right after my foolish enemy attacks with his oversized army ( that is decimated /wiped out by my defenses ) and since i usually have a ready set attacking force in some transports ( if there is sea / rivers on the map ) or in a safe position from where they can attack the enemy town quite quick and effectively ( mostly use bombards / long range artillery, surrounded by a living wall of heavy infantry protected by cavalry archers , for the enemy defenses and quick powerful cavalry /gun powder /ranged units for the remaining enemy troops )

Also: if you already get to the point when you can harvest food and gold/rock (since towers ,castles & walls cost rock and upgrades cost gold ) effectively and know how to use the market then you don't have to much problems with resources

yeah i had some1 use a similar tactic , only to get his knights fucked by my system of walls ( because they are very slow moving units they could get fucked by the towers and artillery ( heavy/ light) that were all to far from there reach. by the time they would reach the castle line there were only about 5-10 knights left out of about 80-100 that were easy pickings for my cavalry and light fast artillery ( he sometimes had cavalry archers with them but because they suck at destroying walls they were pretty much decimated at the first line of defence .
i sometimes used to make walls that lead to so called " killing zones " that where spaces that made the enemy think that he was in my town it only had a cupple of low cost buildings but was surrounded by heavy artillery ( mostly stationary catapults and sough ) that had long range attacks and had a cupple of peasants block the exit with reinforced walls ( the space was moreless constructed near a forest so it would provide a natural barrier that they couldn't really destroy ) and while they were occupied destroying the worthless buildings they were attacked from the back by heavy infantry that could take a lot of damage and in the back cavalry archers. the peasants would continue repairing from the other side any damage caused to the walls , until no enemy units were left.

if they repair your leak then you can edit the little problems with your map by yourself

in aoe2 one of my friends always used to be with Persians and attack everyone with a fucking big army of elephants ( after a while with my help he accompanied the main attack force with cavalry archers and 3-4 artillery pieces ) it was good but he still couldn't get past my wall + artillery + tower + castle system
by the time he destroyed the first heavily reinforced wall the towers allredy decimated half of his army, and my quick attacks with fast cavalry units destroyed his artillery easily
i liked to use ship transports accompanied by a cupple of warships ,then just let the warships blast enemies close to the water and the cavalry ( inside the transport )take out a cupple of units that get away ,and then get back in the transport .

i guess that "simple" means that you don't have any huge , complicated brushes and not to many entities so texture is the only thing that pops in my mind

EDIT : and a noter thing what kind of commands do you have in your .bat file ( ex -nowadtextures ) some of these will slow down your comply

if you put 1 unit of water that will eliminate damage if a player falls on water he doesn't get any damage , if you don't want water there in the game you could put a normal texture on it, EX: a brush with a brick wall texture and make it func_water this will look like a solid brush but acts like water

oh and for that alert light to make sound you need to put an ambient_generic ( point entity ) and then choose the sound you want it to make , i had a problem with ambient_generics ,it complied but stopped loading my map when i wanted to play it

i think its the same problem that Pest has maybe the underscore in the mapname thing is the problem cause my maps named fy_dominator_xxl it said that no underscores in mapname and that _xxl in my map mite be the problem ..
But im not gonna rename my map just to uploade it on a fucking site ...

i like age3 its a lot more different then age2 ( age3 kinda got far away from the older versions when looking at gameplay and game options ) but i still enjoy beating the crap out of some guys in age2 at an internet-cafe now and then

also : if you do have spawn points and lights (entities) then check if there not touching any solid objects
and it the .bat file check thoroughly the mapname it might be 1 misplaced letter

yeah select all of you map and then just make it smaller by dragging it down ... most of the times this causes some smaller objects to not align with the grid , but that doesn't really matter , if you already have a working map then its no problem what so ever

be sure that your light entities aren't touching anything (like superjer said )it needs to bee hanging in the air for it to work

BTW: the flashlight thing happens to me to on 50% of all maps ( not just the 1 s made by me ) the flashlight doesn't work it really isn't that a big deal

yeah by nothing happens what do you mean ? it opens it in notepad or it actually does nothing ( no errors and such ? ) ?? if it opens it up in notepad then that means that you have file extensions checked (VERY BAD) they need to be unchecked (like the tutorial says) so if its checked then you see it as mapname.bat ,but its actually mapname.bat.txt

if you get some error or such then check if your .map file is saved, is valid and working , on the same drive as the zhtl compliers ( i put them in the same folder )

the brush makes it appear the trigger_multiple is an entity that triggers stuff when a player comes in contact with it , so if you step on/in that brush the text will appear ( if the triggers target is set to the game_texts targetname, like edan said)

if your map isn't in the cstrike/maps folder (like superjer said) then check the path in your .bat file ( the part where it says copy .bsp to ".../cstrike/maps ") and make sure that it is actually pointing to your real maps folder ...

EDIT: if it still wouldn't work than just copy it manually in the folder

well i think its the same concept
just make your button activate the teleporter (like on that site) , and put the teleporter in front of the button rite where the player should be standing . and yay when you press the button you get instantly teleported

that maybe the games fault not the compliers, i get that sometimes to. check in your .bat file if the path where to copy your .bsp file is correct or not ( the copy mapname.bsp to ".../cstrike/maps" this is the command that automatically copies the bsp file to your specified folder) .. btw you shouldn't really care about the other files that pop up mostly just the .bsp when its a simple map

be sure to check that there are no entities touching the black void outside of your map. by entities i mean anything that isn't a simple brush . so if you make a func_wall as 1 of your walls connecting with the void, then you get a leak only normal brushes are considered as solids for the complier , entities aren't

PS: i think a brush with the "clip" and ( maybe) "aatrigger" texture will cause a leak if it connects with the outside

well im not sure on this but ill try ...

1. make a func_train an set its path to go under you water brush
2. make a trigger_multiple were the player should land , and set its target to the func_train's targetname this will trigger it ( correct me if im wrong )
3. yes you need 2 separate brushes (as far as i know) one being func_water (or just a brush with water texture on it) and the other 1 should be a trigger_teleport ( the teleport brush sould be right in the path of the player ) now you just make an info_teleport_destination give it a targetname and set the trigger_teleport to target it . well i think thats all go and try it

EDIT: sorry if im wrong but im writing this purely by memory so i mite make a mistake

well if it has to have all the folders included exactly and the file must bee in valid format ( like wav ) then its ok

but i don't care i deleted all of it cause i made it all perfect and everything but that teleporter didn't work with the master and multimanager thing ( i'm 10000% sure its ok ) but when i puss the button the teleporter doesn't activate .. so i deleted it all and just made simple teleporters with no sound ( anyway i didn't have any teleporter sounds so it wouldn't have been good anyway )

well i got the sound form D:/cs-nonsteam/cstrike/sound/ambiance folder. it stops at the verifying resources and it stays like that until i click cancel. but in the console it says error can't load D:/sound

well u can't really edit a map that u don't have the map file of ... u can convert a .bsp into a .map file http://www.superjer.com/forum/converting_a_bsp_into_map.php

The name of the program is bsptwomap ( google it)

but i don't suggest that you decomply a map because it comes out very complicated . the program is designed only to make the map viewable in hammer ( so you can see how some things are made ) not editable .... i suggest that you make the map by yourself

and the other error it seems that 1 (or more) of your brushes are too close to the end of your map space ( u can only make your map as big as hammer lets you .. the part where it still has lines .. if it gets to close to the end the map won't comply ) just move the brushes away from the edge and it should work. i had this error myself once

you can't ignore errors just fix them ! the leak error means that there is a point in your map that has a "leak" that means that your map isn't air-tite and there is a place in your map that connects with the black void outside of your map ( very bad ) that needs to be plugged up ( if you cant find the leak then go to map/load pointfile and trace the path back to find your leak )

PS: an entity doesn't count as a "solid object" so if an entity is connecting with the void outside than that causes a leak error to

ok the i made the advanced teleporter i made the multi_manager trigger the ambient_generic and it complyes with no problem
but when i try to play the map it stops while loading at the " verifying resources " part and i checked the console it said error problem with loading D:/sound (or something like that) i got the sound from my cstrike/sound/ambiance folder ( what i used in the ambient_generic ) so pls some1 help


PS: where can i get good sounds for my teleporter and others ? cause my ambiance folder is pretty empty

well actually now it has the " green" sky ( again from that site ) but it works until it has some problem ( when i exit the game or something like that) and it reverts to the original sky ..

WTF is wrong with this i don't get it . i changed the sky in my map to " green" but before that i tested it on a small map that complies fast first it didn't work, then i put it in again and it worked . after this i changed the sky in my bigger map and the same thing first time didn't work the second 3-4-5. time it worked . then i quit the game and put the map in to another cs maps folder ( a 1.6 mod ) thinking that the problem was fixed ..but when i played the map it had THE DEFAULT SKY . now i quickly go back to the other cs i put the map in first time and that had the default sky AGAIN ..

now idk why the default sky keeps coming back but it doesn't go with my map at all ! i really need help

didn't you put a "player_equip" in your map somewhere ?? cause that gives you weapons but by default it takes away your knife and pistol

well maybe you could use a trigger_push for that ( never used it my self so ...) just make a brush and make it an entity ( cntrl+T) and set it to trigger_push ( you should experiment...or wait a lil for superjer ) oh yeah and if u wanna make an invisible wall that stops players (ONLY players NOT bullets and grenades) then make a brush and put "CLIP" texture on it (the "clip" texture is from zhtl.wad or haflife.wad)

well i got the skyname from 69th valitude and it says "des" there but anyway the first time i tried , it WORKED it had that des sky but the second time i played it had the default sky so thats why im confused .. but im complying the map now with a different sky to see if that works .

i set the render mode to additive now (just have to wait till the comply finishes). and about the sound i have no clue i just put the sound style to power dead bolt 1. Should i put something in the "message(set sound to)" ?

this has nothing to do with the other problem but ill ask anyway .. i changed the sky in my map to the "des" sky and the first time i played it it was fine but the second time it had the default sky again i have no idea what happened i chekt it int he map properties it still had "des" written in it i double and triple checkt it before i tried to comply it again and after i complied it it still has the same default sky and i didn't do anything special just wrote "des" in the cl_skyname box just like i did on my other maps ( ps i never used this sky i usually put the city1 sky )

i want to make a glow for my teleporter the one that looks like a ball of lightning but idk witch 1 it is . i put an env_glow at my map but i have a problem with it , when i play my map the glow is there but its in a black frame i tried setting the render mode to solid and the render fx to 255 but the frame is still there i tried other stuff but nothing seems to work btw that env glow doesn't look the way i want it to so i just want to know how to put that usual teleporter look ( the ball lightning thing )


oooh yeah and i forgot to ask another thing i set the teleporter to make a sound when it teleports but it doesn't make any sound what so ever

can't put ammo ?? hmm but ive played a map called pf_shotgunarena ( or something like that ) where you could pick up ammo for shotgun ... and it was in cs ( didn't see anything to complex on the map so i think it could be done )




but if i'm just spaming here ( and its some strange map ) then sry ... ill try to uplode the map somewere so you can see it to ( and maybe decomplie it and se how it was done )

well i didn't find the folder specified by u but i found in within my cstrike folder .. i knew that i had to put it in the models folder but the last time i tried it got an error while loading so i wasn't sure on what i did wrong. ( probably the skin wasn't working).

u never played age of empires ? X_X its like the grandfather of strategy games :P ... and btw on silkroad u can ask people about stuff and there are the tutorial missions . There are tutorials on the site that explain almost everything.. but i think its simple once u get the hang of it and get into a guild then your guild members help u with everything . After like lvl 52 the its harder to lvl up but u can beat on the low lvl guys in triangular conflict ( u can be thief , hunter , trader ... trader makes trade routs and gets money , thief kills trader gets money from stolen goods , hunter protects trader and gets money and exp when trader reaches destination :D ) im a thief so hunters and traders BEWARE >:))

I remember playing a map that had a sliding door ( just like in cs_assault .. im pretty sure that it can't be done with rotating doors) with a breakable window in it . just i don't recall the name of that map . ill try to look it up ......... ( could it have been done with a func_pushable that is triggered by something ??? or something like that cause im still a noob at this :P)

that was a descrpition of the stupid map man :-L ... if and if u dont know what the problem is then you sould look at the first 2 posts!!!!!!!! but for people who can't read the first posts, ill say it again .. the problem is , that i want the players to spawn in different rooms with different weapons . After they teleport i want them to DROP THERE WEAPONS they were holding from the other room .... thats all so pls some1 help me out

but there is a funmap named fun_allione ( or somethin like tihs ) were ct and t start in separate rooms in a glass box they don't have any equipment when they start and outside the glass box there are 2 walls that have doors each has 1 teleporter that takes you to a different room with different weapons after a few seconds the doors open on the glass box and 1 of the doors on the wall opens ( i think randomly ) and it takes you to the room and gives you a weapon ( exactly like the player_equip ) theres NO weapon on the ground everyone gets 1 in his hand [ there is a shotgun , awp , multiple kinds of pistols at once( u can choose where u go once the pistols door opens ) , knife & m249 -room] and if someone stays in the glass box then an electrical charge kills him .... and after the round ends they all spawn with the weapons they HAD IN THERE HANDS BEFORE and after a few seconds the weapons disappear and they have nothing once again ... im thinking that it can be done only at the start of the round or something like that .. but the problem is that when i lode the map on my server it has an incredible lagg and it really doesn't do anything the doors don't open neither on the glass box neither on the walls the only thing that dose work is the electrical shock after a few minutes .........................so im thinking you mite be right about the server-side script thing


but if some1 know anything about this then pls REPLY if you know how to doo the server script thing then u could explain

well nice program i hope my stupid friend can use it cause the guy had a complex map and he reinstalled his windows and the only copy of the bsp file was the 1 on my pc and he needed it cause it had some stuff that he needed....so i got this program for him now he owes me BIG TIME .. bye the way im writing this cause my friend isn't on this site ( probably cause hes a frickin' jackass! & an idiot ) instead of searching and posting firetrucks .. he asks about everything ( and asks me to send him prefabs and also to post firetrucks on this site and other shit ) now hes gonna copy half of my maps with this program but what the heck hes never gonna be a good mapper if he keeps this up :P

ok ill make it a simpler map then .. ill put only knives on the player_equip and the rest on the ground so they can just pick it up .. and the balancing spawnpoints thing ain't that important so all i need to know is how to make them drop the equipment from the other room ..i know it can be done cause i saw the same thing being done on a noter fun map so pls if u know how to make people automatically drop the equipment after teleporting then pls reply ....Thnx

well i made 1 fun_ map with 3 separate rooms connected by teleports the first one is ( sould be ) with awp & deagle , the second ONLY with he grenade the third only with knife now the problems are :

1 - it being a single map the player_equip affects all spawnpoints not just the ones in the room.
2 - i want to make it so that in each room there is a teleporter that takes you to the other rooms so you can go back and fourth as you please so if i could fix the first problem i would need them to automatically drop the equipment from the other room after teleporting
3 - (i think this is stupid but ill ask anyway ) i put spawnpoints only in the first 2 rooms and i have 32 of them 8 in a room ( for 1 team) and i was thinking that if like only 12 people are playing then they can all spawn in a single room...i would like the spawnpoints to be balanced so that they won't all spawn in the same room but would be divided equally in the 2 rooms so instead of 6 of them being in a single room they would be 3 -3 of them in the 2 rooms ( hope i expressed my self clearly so you can understand my stupid problems )

if anyone has some usefull info ( or any kind don't be shy ) for all this shit i have been asking then pls reply .. or if they can't be done then pls help me with some kind of alternate way to finish this map ..Thnx for your time

I couldn't find this in the search so heres the question .. how can i make an overview for my map ? i saw that i need to make a picture of my map andt a text with the same name but i don't know what are the dimensions and stuff i have to enter so pls if some1 can explain it to me then pls do so :D

Yeah i kinda got carried away with the texture fitting .. the notexscale made it complie i didin't use -sparse but ill be sure to remember that thnx ..... by the way how can i make a brush with the net texture ( and set to funk_illusonary ) to bee more see through .. cause when i play the map where there were blue parts theres just black instead ... how can i make it transparent cause i tried selecting the blue color and seting it to transparent but it didin't work so i don't know how too do that .........

ok .. I did get a warning that my virtual memory is too low (Normally my virtual memory automatically increases when its low) and on drive D where i put the compliers , the game & all theres more then 10 GB free space the drive with the less space on it is drive C with 3 GB ... so i'm pretty sure its the virtual memory is the problem .. what complier settings are u talking about and can some1 tell me what the "swap file " form that error is ??

I made all my textures "fit" but now i cant comply my map every time i tried to comply it always had an error (after like 20-30 minutes of complying) .. the most recent 1 is this from the .err file :

hlrad: Error: Memory allocation failure
Description: The program failled to allocate a block of memory.
Howto Fix: Likely causes are (in order of likeliness) : the partition holding the swapfile is full; swapfile size is smaller than required; memory fragmentation; heap corruption

now i don't understand this but i tried to check the map for errors in hammer but it didn't find anything ... so i tried deleting some things that i thought mite cause the problem and it still had that error so if some1 knows what my problem is then pls reply

ohh yeah and how do i make a brush glow with a pulsing lite ?? because i tried making it into an entity and entering some stuff ( it didn't work) but i don't know what i have too write were to make it emit light and to make it a pulsing light ( don't want too use direct lites on this ) i heard something about "lighted textures" is this what i need ? ( what are these ? )
and sould i make a light transparent ( or seetrou and how can i doo that)

i have a problem with ANY texture i use ANYWERE when i make a brush and put a texture on it ( even if the brush is the exact dimensions of the texture) the texture isn't applied exactly on the brush but a litte offset and if i move the brush the texture stays still ( its like i have a BIG wall of the texture repeating itself and if i move the brush around the texture on it just moves further on that wall ) so the texture isn't exactly on the brush and its screwing up my map ! i want too make neon lites with the texture form halflife.wad and i made the brush the exact dimensions of that texture but the the place i put it isn't good because its right in the middle of were the textures connect so i have 2 half's of a neon instead of a full 1 so if i want it too look good then i have too move it ..... Can anything be done with this or is this normal ?

i Finished My second map and it i used breakable crates at some points instead of ladders ..The problem is that at the end of the round the crates ( that I destroy) do NOT reappear . The crates are just "Prefabs" that i put in .. should i make a brush in to an entity ? If yes then what is the name of the entity ..

The other thing is how can i make custom textures , overlays ,decals (and stuff like that )??
I just draw my texture and copy it to some folder ? or is it more complicated ? pls Help ... THNX for your time

ok i put everithing on the same drive and it finished the map it's in my counter strike 1.6 non steam map list but when i play the map before it lodes i get a hl error report [ * Half-Life Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.* ]and it exits the game .. i got errors like this before on other maps but after 3 tries it would start but i tried like 50 times and at the same point it gets the error ...

PLS REPLY ANY1 WHO CAN TELL ME SOMETHING ! :(

probably u guys had enough of idiots like me but i don't get it ... I followed the tutorial , after editing the .bat file ( I think the editing is ok.) i run it and then the .err file says this ..hlcsg: Error: Could not open wad file \csns\valve\cstrike\cstrike.wad

hlcsg: Error: Could not find WAD file
Description: The compile tools could not locate a wad file that the map was referencing.
Howto Fix: Make sure the wad's listed in the level editor actually all exist

well it exists & i can't find any other file named "cstrike.wad" so i have no idea what the problem is ... probably it's something very simple...
