[2009-11-24 00:54:45 UTC] guys! [2009-11-24 00:54:46 UTC] http://www.superjer.com/forum/func_door.php [2009-11-24 01:33:19 UTC] You guys, I'm playing Civilization II again? [2009-11-24 01:33:28 UTC] ...What? No. I still don't have time. [2009-11-24 01:33:42 UTC] Fuck you. [2009-11-24 03:14:46 UTC] im playing dungen keeper agane... [2009-11-24 03:29:32 UTC] Dungeon Keeper makes me happy. I wish it worked better with the newer operating systems. [2009-11-24 04:12:48 UTC] yah i want #2 for xmas...talk about a cheep christmas [2009-11-24 04:44:15 UTC] o.0 [2009-11-24 05:52:19 UTC] Jake?!, get on the ball. Your Facebook account seems to have been hacked. [2009-11-24 15:52:49 UTC] Why on Earth would you play Civ 2? That's pretty much widely regarded as the worst Civ game... [2009-11-24 16:19:55 UTC] You're actually the only person I've met who holds that opinion. [2009-11-24 16:20:16 UTC] But I also know a number of people that have never played anything but Civ II, which is a shame [2009-11-24 16:20:50 UTC] Anyway, it's pretty clear the Civ IV is the best, or maybe just the least flawed, though it still has major flaws. [2009-11-24 16:46:54 UTC] Civ 1 has a certain magic that no other Civ can replicate, Civ 3 was the first Civ to look good and it also added something new (unlike 2), Civ 4 is the first Civ that seems to have any real effort put into it's creation and it ALMOST catches the Civ 1 magic... and Civ 2... has the visual appeal of horse intestines and is otherwise a unwieldy version of Civ 1... what makes anyone like it?! [2009-11-24 17:12:23 UTC] I didn't come to it with I, I came to it with II, which may result in some difference of opinion for me. I, to me, is nearly unplayable. II is merely broken, but in an endearing way, as only a childhood toy can be. [2009-11-24 17:12:39 UTC] If you get Leonardo's Workshop in the middle of a war, for example, well, you just invented the Jesus Machine and you're going to go levelling the earth now. Another breaky thing about it is that you can easily build any wonder in one turn, because you always know when another Civ has started one and as soon as you have caravans you can use them to get fifty shields on it a pop. [2009-11-24 17:12:52 UTC] Third breaky thing is that the settlers/engineers were extremely unbalanced. The support they cost, one food per turn, was ludicrous for one thing, but they could also basically jump on top of a mountain and over the course of several turns turn it into grasslands or plains of what have you, which was silly as all hell. I guess a distant fourth busted aspect is that there's really no reason to be anything other than a Commie in that game. [2009-11-24 17:13:03 UTC] Things that were positives... well, for one, there were more terrain types than any other Civ game, which meant that there were more resources than ever even though the placement of them was stupidly non-fractal and resources didn't actually start doing anything aside from creating good city placements until III. [2009-11-24 17:13:13 UTC] It's also surprisingly receptive to modding as everything is stored in stupid little files that can be opened by anything. I've used some of these to make the game look less like amorphous blobs of green and blue. They're good, even if most of them aren't handled perfectly and lead to some minor visual glitches elsewhere. [2009-11-24 17:13:49 UTC] But in conclusion, I'd basically say that the only reason anyone likes it is because they didn't have I and they're sentimental about it. Anyone who hasn't played IV doesn't really have an excuse to pass judgment. [2009-11-24 17:33:40 UTC] Have you played Age of Ice yet? It doesn't take very long to beat or lose, and it's very interesting. I'd suggest picking the scout/hunter/ranger type hero guy, even though he seems like the most useless. Make sure to turn him into a ranger for his special abilities, and you will understand why he is practically necessary to not get eaten by a giant dragon late game. [2009-11-24 17:56:49 UTC] No, not yet. It always takes me a long time to get around to scenarios. I played the ones in II a bit, and in III, I really had fun with the Samurai one because running around with your big goddamn Daimyo and slashing cities in half possessed a kind of charm. [2009-11-24 17:56:58 UTC] I think the only one I played in IV was the Chinese warring states one, which I remember as being frustrating as it seemed you could only defend, which is not a viable way of winning. I'll put it on my to-do list. [2009-11-24 23:19:28 UTC] BLAM
